Anyone have any input on a radar detector that works well on bikes. I previously used a bel 945, but it crapped out a few years ago. Typically, I am a law abiding citizen, but it's nice to have protection for those occasional lapses. :D

Yes, pick up one of these as they are battery powered and the best battery powered undetectable radar detector you can get. Escort Radar Solo S3

SOLO S3 - Escort Inc.

If you want pure performance while still being able to remain undetected I'd say go for the Escort Redline which is the best detector on the market hands down!

What about mounting them to the bike? That's always been the biggest challenge I see, to having radar/laser protection on a bike..

This isn't exactly what you are looking for information wise, but it is my understanding that getting true speed readouts on narrow shapely sport bikes are very difficult to get. I have had more than a few speeding tickets in my life, all in cars or minivans when not really feeling like I was speeding. Well, a couple even when I was paying attention.
I have never had a desire to have radar or laser detection on a bike mainly for the reason that I ride with a 'hyper' awareness of the road ahead. Fortunately I live in a state where cops aren't allowed to hide like many other states. So I have always been able to reduce speed if necessary in a rapid fashion. It is also my understanding, most speed checking devices won't display a clean reading if the vehicle is rapidly decelerating. Race ABS with Stoppie control sounds just like the tool that will make that easier.

I am not a high mileage rider. But I do drive 30K miles per year and don't use a radar/laser detector there either.

I am interested in having GPS on the bike. I would love if this could be displayed on the normal TFT display. Any ideas how to make that work?

Chris

Laser jammer.

Laser jammers are absolutely the best.....for laser's only though. For a laser gun to work it has to hit a FLAT surface to acquire the speed. I don't believe they could get you from a frontal "hit" but MAYBE from getting your license plate so it's much more important to get a radar detector as also that's what the majority of police use nowadays. Well depending from state to state

They use laser for speed traps in BC. Cop cars have radar mounted in them. I'm not concerned about radar, very easy to fight in court. Laser is a different ball game.

I have been using the Escort Passport 9500ix without any issues or tickets.

I used to have a 9500ix which was amazing, however I was in one of the few states that didn't allow radar detectors and I was smart that whenever I knew a police gun was on/targeting me I'd pull the plug and off she went.

Was too slow one time when a cop I/O (Instant On aka not emitting any signal until they target you) me and got pulled over....not for speeding but for having a radar detector as he had a radar detector detector....go figure damn VA! Regardless one of the few states that ban them so that's why I was recommending the Redline as its undetectable as well as the Solo S3. Still saved me thousands of $ from tickets and insurance purposes as well. The radar ticket was something like $50 :p and that was only once in 4years

Does the solo s3 have an earphone jack?

Hmm not sure, I looked on the website couldn't find anything perhaps you can shoot them an e-mail about that. But no power supply needed really helps with the ease of the setup for your bike IMO

Ah yes, my bad as I was simply referring for the U.S and don't know too much about Canada's traps!

The Valentine one is hands down the best radar detector on the market . It not only has vg2 ,so it can't be detected it also has arrows that tell which direction radar and laser is coming from .it does have an optional ear piece . It may be a little bulky but ill have one on my 1199 for sure! A friend tested it side by side with the top of the line escort and the Valentine picked up radar signal WAY faster than the escort . That's no b.s.

It depends on what type of band, it may have a SLIGHTLY better reception, but one huge downfall.....it gives out farrrr to many false positives and it doesn't "learn" as the escort does. Anytime you drive pass by a BEST BUY perhaps your V1 will go off every time. On Escort however, after 3 times within the same spot it will "learn" that it is a false positive and automatically mute it from then on. What good is a radar that is constantly beeping and you don't know which one is real or fake?

Plus Escort you can get updates and program red light camera locations as well as permanent speed traps as it has GPS built it....V1 does not.

The Techmount seems brilliant.
I am concerned as I use GPS and radar localization on my iPhone.

Although, bikes are harder to get for policemen. That's definitely true.
And for the laser thingy, they usually point to my helmet, which is carbon made, and since carbon absorbs laser, they can't measure my speed. ^o^
