Radiator guard quality question

I see Evo Tech and R&G 2-piece radiator guards for the Panigale V4x. Both have good reviews on this site.

I also see NiceCNC radiator guards (and several others) on eBay for considerably less money.

My family buys me gifts and saw this was on my list. So they may make a purchase on my behalf. How should I guide them?

Should I caution them against the less expensive eBay guards? Why, given that it's aluminum screening in a frame?

I see some versions of the guards have tabs while the others do not.

I'm not really looking for the obligatory "you own a Ducati... so pony up for the most expensive parts you can find". LOL

I have lots of CNC Racing, R&G, and other stuff either installed or on order.

This is simply a question about radiator guards... and living with a family that loves me... and seeking the experience of others.

Be well.

I have the evo on a V2. stops about half the bugs. easy to remove and clean.

we have gravel around here so its foolish to ride without one.

they supply longer bolts and they need to be wiggled in through three parts to line up with the speed nuts.

As you can see, you will likely have trouble getting an answer to your question as most that buy these bikes spend the money on quality brand name parts. That's not to say the stuff out of china will be no good, but likely very few have put it to the test. Yes, it is just a screen, but to most, fit and finish matter on a bike of this caliber. R&G and Evotech are known quantities. The multitude of ebay/chinese vendors not so much. If it is worth it to you, take the gamble and let us all know how it works out.

For me, it is a fair bit of effort installing the rad guards on this bike, compared to to others I have owned. I would not want to go through that work and find out they didn't fit well.

Id like to share a story with you.
In 2008 I wanted a Qs for one of my bikes. Did a bunch of research found a translogic one I really wanted. But why spend the $500 when I can get brand X QS for $250. I bought the cheaper one after 21 days it broke while I was riding. Once I turned the bike off it wouldn't restart. I payed to get it towed to the dealer $150 thinking it was unrelated to the QS. So they removed the QS and bike ran flawlessly. Then I got a bill for $100 diagnostic.
Moral of the story is you cant cheat quality. I ended buying the translogic and enjoyed it for many years.

Oh and +1 for evotech lol

Doesn’t anyone have experience with the Aella radiator guards? Ordered them but it will take ~3 weeks for them to arrive.

I already have mine arrived since a few weeks ago, but can't install them yet because I am waiting for Samco hoses (and some ProTi bolts).
What I like about AELLA's is the holes near the center if smaller (because they are right behind the front wheel to better protect from stones), but the holes on the left and right sides are larger for better air flow.
and... well, they look gorgeous too :p
Here are some pictures:

Those Aella ones look like the install will be a complete PITA. Just like any guard for the '20 SFV4. Basically you're taking out the radiator shroud.

I tried the Dieci83 guards and they are the price they are...for the quality you get. The mounting system is bizarre. They use this odd zip tie system that only makes sense if they are adapting them for many different bikes and therefore cutting costs. They didn't completely fill the exposed fin area either.

Got the Evotech ones and immediately recognized where that extra money went.

Don't I know it lol. Compared to other designs though its something that needs to be taken into consideration. While its nothing for a capable person which can be accomplished in a Saturday afternoon not everyone has the same mechanical ability. I'd encourage anyone who'd balk at a full Akro install to look up install instructions and make sure its something you'd want to bite off.

That’s a good point, after getting into the radiator section and installing the Cox Racing guards I realize that I wouldn’t have a problem doing a full exhaust install in my garage. The hardest part for me would be keeping track of all the nuts and bolts. The V4 is an rewarding bike to work on... just make sure you have some extra fairing fastener bolts and some of the plastic clips that stay on the radiator shroud to help keep the fairings in place cause I noticed one was missing when I went to put the fairings back on

So, I received these as a gift. They are engraved “Panigale V4” in a tasteful non-garish way. They have a well-engineered honeycomb design, and they feel as robust as any other aluminum screens. No rough spots, all smooth edges, and a uniform design with a great finish. Came with a few fitment bits that I know nothing about because of what happened next.

Took them into the shop for an opinion (planning to install them myself) ... I was getting the first service done ... the mechanic took a look, said ‘oh, very nice’, and promptly installed them. He reported they went in like butter. So I’m happy.
