Hello all,

I see there have been a couple post's already about this (random stalling), but my question is "what are my options?"

I little background information.

Purchased 1199 Base model December 2013. First noticed stalling in neutral on warm up 52 Degrees. Next thime this happened was coming to a stop clutch all the way in. Now every thime I start the bike it stalls when it comes up to temperature and randomly in neutral at traffic lights. I have taken it in to Fraser Ducati City Melbourne for them to tell me they could not find anything wrong. I have continued riding and it keeps happening. Today I have taken it in again to them, but im wanting to know if they cant fix it do I just have to accept paying $30000 for a bike that stalls? Does anyone else have or have had this problem?

Any advice would be much appreciated. Oh there is no charcoal cannister on AUS version.

Cheers Brenden.

It gets better after the first service unless you've already had that done.

This is a known issue and charcoal canister has nothing to do with stalling. Happens to almost everyone during the break in process. Happened to me multiple times before first service. After that, hasn't happened yet. Around 2000 miles now.

Us poor cousins down under don't get the charcoal canister with our Panigales.

Try disconnecting the cable that controls the exhaust butterfly valve.
I noticed an uncanny correlation between the cable being connected vs the cable being attached (ie butterfly valve actuating)

I know there isn't one. He clearly stated that in the post and the only reason I even said that is because he mentioned it as if that is the known cause with the bike in general when it has nothing to do with it.

Thanks for super quick replies.

Bike has done 3200kms or 2000miles. I have the termi slip ons and up-map at first service.

Littlejohn when I get bike back I will look at this. :)

Seeing as you've already got the Termis with all relevant up maps and updates, the cable won't be in place anyway as it's completely removed when the slips go on.
And you've also got plenty of k's on it, so it's not something that's going to sort itself out with time.

It sounds very much like something to do with the gear position switch/sensor.
That's my bet.
Seeing as the dealer will need to be able to replicate the problem and also diagnose it. All the while the problem is occurring at random.
You're going to have a pretty hard time getting it done under warranty.
The switches have been known to be a bit dodgy at times, and can cause the same problems to what you're experiencing, and can also be influenced by temp.
Replacement will be the first step toward the only way to conclusively find out one way or another:(

My advise will be to get on the front foot, and just get it changed for a new one, and wear the cost yourself.
It will ultimately be the most effective/expedient way to handle it.
Ask the dealer how much to get it done, and weigh up the cost benefit equation for yourself;)

Depending on your relationship with the dealer.
You may want to initially arrange for the work to be done at your own expense, with a view to the dealer putting it through under warranty in the event that it actually does fix the problem for you. The dealer really can't loose, and you get the problem fixed;)
You can only ask the question.
The worst they can say is "no, sorry"

One way, you will pay.
Or the other way they may come to the party with a warranty claim(after the fact).
Hopefully it will fix the issue. As I said, I think that's where the real problem lies.

Think about it:)

My bike did the same thing. I put a full system on and upmap and now its alot better, starts everytime. Something with the butterfly?

Hello Brenden,

What my dealer told me was that the temperature parameters had to be adjusted. After the adjustment, stalling when bike was in neutral completely stopped and reduced the stalling when pulling the clutch in during stopping. However, it did continue to happen every once in a while. The fix to the stalling when coming to a stop issue was adjusting the clutch engagement distance by way of reducing the distance between the thin aluminum tab and the little button it presses when pulling in the clutch. I was told the drop in rpm due to the engine breaking control (EBC) was faster than the engagement of the clutch. What I recommend you try is pushing that tab towards to clutch lever to reduce the distance so the clutch engages faster. This was the fix for me. I haven't stalled since.
Another fix maybe the removal of the charcoal canister. Antihero did a great write up on how to do so.

Hope this helps.

There's no carbon canister on his machine.

Your solution to the problem looks very interesting;)
I think this should be the first port of call as it's certainly going to be cost effective:)

So, Got the bike back today. Mechanics could not find any problems. Reset A/F sensors and had a Ducati Master Mechanic do a BAS tune????? After this it was run up on the dyno.

Fingers crossed this has solved the problem, but what the heck is a BAS tune???

Cheers for all the help!
