Hello guys looking at my tuning options and I also want cruise control! Planning on doing a filter and coring my exhaust and adding a tuner. Out of these two choices can some people give me the pros and cons. This is for a 1299 base again I would really love cruise but also I want this bike to run the best it can! Thanks for your input

I've used both...even at the same time. Both give very good results. I haven't hit the dyno, but the performance feels much stronger with either one.

I know RB has a lot of fans here, but if I had to suggest a drawback it would be that it adds a LOT of wiring and a LOT of connectors. Italian wiring is what it is...nearly doubling the amount of connectors could be an issue.

I'm currently trying to sort out a problem with my RB Racing. Every so often with no pattern it limits me to 5k and does this odd bucking/surging thing like its hitting a rev limiter. When I pull in the clutch and try to rev past this 5k "block" if you will, it keeps limiting it to something like 6k.

Support with RB is better. I never had an issue with my TB setup and its currently what i'm running with an Akra full system.

The cruise control is amazing.

RapidBike = piggyback
TuneBoy = remap

I might have missed something, but in that case others will chime in I'm sure

So I would have to use the tuneboy for cruise? I think I would like the simplicity as well. So other than support from RB Why would I choose them over TB?

The above is my biggest concern w/ piggyback systems like RB (or PowerCommanders). If you're troubleshooting fueling issues you've made that process way more complicated. I have a PC on my GT, no issues so far..but If i could remap my ECU w/ the PC settings I'd do it.

Really leaning towards the Tuneboy. Is it pretty easy for most tuning guys to use? Do I have to do a custom tuned dyno map or does it come pre loaded? Also can it run off a Mac computer?

Installed TuneBoy on my Tri a couple years back. Super easy install, integrates great, cruise is fantastic. Support from Wayne and the gang in Australia truly sucks dog eggs. Get your assistance elsewhere, and you are good to go. Bike runs better with the canned maps available from TB than the factory upmaps (I have used both Termi silencers, as well as full Termi). If you are to eventually dyno, you can completely customize the maps which is good since the maps from TB are way too rich still (had this confirmed via dyno hp run at a bike event). You will need a PC to install - I can't get mine (2 years old, they may have upgraded since then) to work with my MacBook Pro, and had to use my wife's PC - no problem then whatsoever. Good luck.

Do yourself a BIG favor and get a windows laptop. I went into Microcenter and bought the cheapest Windows 7 machine I could find. There are a lot of threads on here about tuneboy, and Macs are an issue.

It comes with maps, which some describe as "canned". Basically they custom tune a bike and upload that map. For an 1199 with an Akrapovic exhaust there are 3 to choose from. You can load three at a time and switch pretty easily just using the throttle and clutch lever.

Tuneboy. Zero wiring, cruise control.

Support is spotty; sometimes it's great, sometimes Wayne disappears for awhile. You've really got to know how to use Windows (I don't) and be a bit computer savvy, along with meticulously following the non-intuitive instructions that come with the kit.

But being able to directly rewrite the ECU is way better than a piggyback. Troubleshooting on any piggyback system can be a nightmare and a half.

I had no problem on my MacBook Air. I was not virtualizing the OS. I was running bootcamp. Everything worked like a charm.

Instructions were easy for the install. The tuning instructions will go over most people's heads.

The usb driver was the only part that was not streamlined. The unit runs with a wifi connection so I didn't even need the driver.
The driver I downloaded with the software didn't work for me, I had to use the one from the disk.

Interesting, I have had the same issue with my RB, I thought I was the only one... in my case it happened several times after hard braking with closed throttle. the exhaust would "pop" and then it would behave exactly as you describe. Then it would go back to normal after a few seconds in neutral. Are you using autotune? In my case it started happening after a software update removed the lower rev limit for AFR adjustment (which messed up my idle) and me setting the maps to 0 under 3000rpm in an attempt to fix. I ended up reloading the initial map making sure the the lower limit is set. my idle went back to normal and so far it hasnt happened again, fingers crossed. have you consulted with Yaman?

It did it to me a couple of times when I first installed it. When I installed the Akrapovic full system, I went back over every inch of wiring and reloaded the map it came with, which was the one labeled 1199 termi full. Then it did it a few more times. I also experienced the exhaust pop sound thing. I had two occasions where the bike would shut off for an instant then come right back to life.

I have been in contact with Yamanm he was thinking it was a bug in the firmware. I pulled the wiring and unit and will be sending them back.

This happened to me but I think my RB quick-shifter had a problem and it was the cause of my bucking and surging .. Yaman diagnosed the problem and it is all perfect now ..
After I did a firmware update.. it quickly reverted back to the surging...
Then I just rode it gently for a couple of kms then started to ride more aggressively..There was absolutely NO surging and the bike run's flawless, quick-shifter and all.....I've put on 500kms since my original issues and the bike runs beautifully

Anyone currently have Tuneboy on a completely stock 1299? I know there was a link to recent files but not sure if they included a stock improvement flash. I know a stock rework did wonders for drivability and power delivery on my S1000RR. Thanks.

Yes there are standard files. From the read me which is included in the V5/1299 download...

The following files are included for the 1299 and Panigale R
============================================================

Panigale 1299
=============

Panigale1299_00000800_EU_STD_Tune
This is the standard map file for the Panigale 1299.
Load this into the ECU if you need to return the bike to standard.

Panigale1299_000800_CruiseAndTuning_V5Tune
This is the map for the Panigale 1299 with standard exhaust, this tune file
adds the Cruise control and tuning

Panigale1299_000800_Tuning_V5Tune
This is the map for the Panigale 1299 with standard exhaust, this tune file
adds the tuning feature only, it does not have Cruise Control.

Panigale1299_020800_CruiseAndTuning_US_V5Tune
This is the map for the Panigale 1299 with standard exhaust, this tune file
adds the Cruise control and tuning
This is for the US market

Panigale1299_020800_Tuning_US_V5Tune
This is the map for the Panigale 1299 with standard exhaust, this tune file
adds the tuning feature only, it does not have Cruise Control.
This is for the US market

Panigale1299_09000802_CruiseAndTuning_V5_FullAkraTune
This is the map for the Panigale 1299 with full Akrapovic exhaust, this tune file adds the Cruise control and tuning

Panigale1299_09000802_Tuning_V5_FullAkraTune
This is the map for the Panigale 1299 with full Akrapovic exhaust, this tune file adds the tuning feature only, it does not have Cruise Control.

I didn't write the read me file, but I'm not seeing a stock (STD) US tune.

I think the label is misleading on the first one marked "EU". Its just the base file to duplicate what the factory put on it in case you want to revert it; dealer service, trouble shooting etc. There's one of those types of files for the 1199 too.

Does anyone have a copy of the 1299 trim file Wayne created for the Full Akra system (not the Boulder Motorsport one). It doesn't come with the V5 download but I've seen it mentioned a few times.

Also, does anyone know if there has been an update from Ducati for the ECU since the 1299 was launched?

Are there specific TB maps for the 2015 R and if so how many? Or will the other maps work with all 1199s?
