Dear forum members,

Who can help me out.
I have a Ducati Panigale V4S.

My question is about the black plastic guards that are mounted on the left and right side of the rear cylinder heads.
Ducati has mounted a large one on the left side, which covers the entire cylinder head (side) and a small guard on the right, covering only the upper part of the cylinder head (side).
What could be the reason for this?

I bought a heat shield set, which also comes with a larger guard for the right side. This covers the entire side of the right cylinder head. Hence my question.

I have already submitted this question to the dealer, but I have not yet received an answer.

Thanks for your response, but it doesn't really answer my question unless your answer is intended synically. So it would be better to remove both protective caps and take the extra heat for granted!? 😅

Cynical……

Seriously a waste of money get em both off!

In answer the engine is a v4 the rear right cylinder sticks out further than the rear left so less space…

I don't use them, right or left. I would assess they are for noise compliance.

The part description for the foam which lines the plastic even gives a clue as to its actual purpose.

I doubt anyone at a dealership could find their ass with both hands and a map unless proven otherwise.

My left one has reflective shielding on the inside and I spaced it a little out to get airflow. But maybe I try it off. I'll point my little infrared thermometer at my knee when in traffic both off and on and compare.

I have asked the question on several forums. The preliminary conclusion is that the large guard on the left is mainly intended as a heat shield. The left side (cylinder) sticks further out than the right side and almost touches your leg. Noise reduction is a bonus. It has not yet become clear whether or not you may replace the small guard on the right side for a larger one, as supplied with the (purchased) additional heat guard kit. I also find these plastic guards ugly and was thinking of replacing them with carbon or simply removing them and deal with the heat

Thanks for all the help and advice so far!

can't take the heat stay out the kitchen*

Heat guards are non sense on a V4. All sound insulation from the panels, the plastic engine covers, 2nd expansion tank and heat shields besides the base titanium on the right can be removed
