Hi guys

Notice my bike’s brake gets dark, knowing that it maybe the heat from the bike makes that fluids breaks down faster then usual ergo turns black.

Anyone have changed out an aftermarket one to preserve

the fluids? Or just a sock over it?

A Brembo PS13 will be your best bet less crap to deal with as well.

Mick1976, do u have a link for your specific PS13 setup, it looks real nice

You can have any Brembo dealer order one for you but they typically are about 3-5 month wait since all the race teams get priority.

omg ur right, I wonder if TsaiCo the OP road all 60 miles with the rear brake mashed and didn’t even know. I see riders do that .... every now and then.
Could this make his fluid gray after 60 miles?

With engine brake assistance turned off for maximum (natural) feel, I hardly touch those rear brakes. Downshift and front brakes

I normally don’t used rear brake at the street. But on track I used it to correct my lines inside the turns.

During that 60 miles ride, I may have used it about 3 times? Just to get a feel of ergonomics the bike. That’s about it.

Ducatikev, you maybe right, I’m touching it without me notice.

there was a thread about the back brake Applying pressure to the rear rotor on someone’s bike who had a carbon fiber wheel. I road around spiritedly for 30 minutes, hopped off the bike and grabbed my rear wheel.
It was cool to the touch.

id recommend you do the same, if ur wheels hot there may be a problem. Your foot might not even be on the brake at all, and it just needs adjustment???

hows your fluid been looking? Rear fluid on my bike is looking good but the front brakes and clutch get used a lot. Front brake fluid is the worst, looks burnt. Time to renew w Motul RBF 660

yeah, i got myself a motive power bleeder, should give that a try tomorrow. basically is pressurized canister hold the brake fluid in place, place the adaptor cap they supply, twist the nipple of the caliper, voila!! comes out old fluid, and replenished with new. (my first time using it tomorrow...)

Normally when the brake fluid goes dark brown it means that there is water in the brake fliud. Brake fluid is hygroscopic and when water gets into it being as water is compressible it will eventually take more pressure (effort) and reduce feel at the lever to apply the brakes. Ive tried DOT 5.1 before (but not on my 1299, but will be very soon as my brake fluid is looking past its best) which in synthetic and isnt nearly as hygroscopic as DOT 4 and its less compressible too, giving a noticeable firmness at the brake lever and more 'bite'. Some people dont like DOT 5.1 as the 'bite' when the brakes are applied is a bit too much, in that case changing the DOT 4 more often would be the answer
