Rear swaying under braking

At the track, my rear sways side to side pretty bad under braking while down shifting on my 1199. I've tried different EBC settings and lowering the rebound in the rear shock but none seem to really help.

On turns that require only downing 1 gear, I can let the clutch out slower and its fine.

If I blip the throttle on downshifts, I have no problems.

Just wondering if anyone else had ideas before I pull the trigger on an EVR slipper clutch.

If you don't want to spend on the slipper clutch, you can just change down a split second later when your rear wheel road speed has got closer to the gear ratio speed, but you'll probably be leaning in at that point, at which point your tire circumference is also getting less, so you'll have to wait longer.

Just buy a 1299 while there are some still available, then you won't have to worry too much about it....:)

Also, you might not find a slipper all that helpful, I put a STM on my 1098 and it removed all engine braking, it was almost like riding a two stroke again, so I removed it after a couple of track days and went back to enjoying the rear end wiggle.

Thats what happens when you change down multiple gears in one succession without matching revs / without a slipper.

Well the bike does have a slipper, but just the factory one, just doesn't work very well under aggressive braking.

Aggressive braking isn’t the problem it’s going from 5 to 2, suspension loaded on the front/back end lifting without rev matching and the front not setup properly.

Back to rev matching it is! I just remembered riding my 600 with an STM slipper, I could down the gears, abuse it, and never have the rear end upset. Still learning the difference of riding the pani at the track vs a Japanese 600.

I had a similar issue at Mid-o Vintage days (granted I was not 100% familiar with the track), after a few sessions I finally dialed in my down shifts and blipping, I guess it just takes a little time and practice.

Elements, you are just enjoying the braking power of the Pani ! Change your inputs a bit , your rear wheel is most likely off the ground . Shift your body back before you start braking , apply a bit of rear before your brake hard with the front , then ease off the rear. Keep light on the bars and grip the tank. Try to control sway by pushing/steering through the foot pegsand back it in , easy ???
