Hello:
Just bought a used 1299S and am looking to install CNC rearsets. But when I went to remove the OEM brake side rearset, the top bolt which attaches the rearset to the swinging arm support shaft (I believe it is a 6mm Hex), I can't seem to access it as the bracket that holds the rear brake master cylinder is blocking access to get a allen key in to unscrew the bolt. Does anyone have any suggestions to aid in accessing this bolt. I have considered cutting my allen key to make it shorter so I can get the key between the bracket and the recessed opening to access the bolt, but perhaps someone has a better method.

Thanks.

I've got allen keys that have ends that will work at a bit of an angle for this. The clutch side is even worse due to the gear shifter rod being in the way as well.

Hey Royal:

Thanks for the suggestion. I have the angled allen keys, but assumed that the angle was too steep and/or the torque required to break the bolt would be too high for these to be effective in this situation. I guess I should not assume things till I have tried them out.

Again thanks for your help and will try them out this evening.

I am at work so not at home to have a look, but I did this job recently just to replace the OEM bolts with Proti Ti ones. I recall it was not a quick job and I had remove a lot more than I thought to get to things. Just take your time and remove what you need.

Remove the rear master bracket then rear set. Start with the heel guards.

One of the most awesome fun parts of this bike to work on. Like a super confusing jigsaw puzzle. In Italian.

PS - be very careful breaking loose bolts with ball-end keys. See if you can get a 3/8" drive extension through with a socket drive hex key. Maybe. If possible. Found regular L-keys work well for the rearsets.

Hey tadashi:

How is the rear master bracket removed? If I could get that off, the top bolt removal would be simple then. Is it bolted to the swinging arm support shaft from the inside?
