This weekend I'm bringing my 1199 to NJMP to ride while coaching a trackday. I'm not near the bike and wad wondering how quickly the entire license plate/turn signal assembly unbolted? Are the screws accessed from underneath or do I have to pull the tail shroud? I'm sure I'll figure it out, just deciding whether to remove or just tape the lights.
Thanks
Brett

Have not done the job myself YET but from what I've read it's not a 2 minute job. You'll have to remove at least some of tail section to disconnect wires to lights / indicators. Tape the way to go for quick and easy job!!

You don't have to pull the tail bodywork.

Take off the rider seat and the pillion cover/seat.

Looking under the tail, take off the four torx bolts, this will open up the cover. Now four bolts attach the whole stanchion. These bolts are accessed from the the pillion compartment, you'll see two very obviously, the other two you get to by going thru two holes to get to them.

It's actually pretty straightforward and probably takes 10 minutes.

You take the passenger seat cover off with the key and then remove four allen head bolts. Its then just three electrical connectors and your done. Three things to note:

1. You'll need a long allen key, or better still a t-bar style allen key, to get at two of the bolts. There are two holes either side of the passenger seat locking mechanism to allow you to get at the bolts which are buried half way down the tools compartment. The other two bolts are easy to get at under the tools compartment lid.
2. The electrical connectors will be left dangling, just push them up through the rubber slot in the bottom of the tools compartment.
3. The two bolts that need the long allen key are difficult to put back in unless you have very small hands. Leave extra time for refitting/swearing.

I think they're allen not torx.

Thank you gents. I've always wanted/needed a good set of T-bar allen keys. Now I'll play the Fathers day card for a trip to Sears this weekend!!

nope the four that are on the cover are torx, these are the ones on the underside, not the ones that anchor the pylon to the bike. Pylon anchor bolts are allen head. I don't recall if you had to take the cover off to access the wires, you may not need to.

OK, I see what you mean now, but why do you need to take the cover off? Just undo the four allen bolts and disconnect the wires, no? That's how I removed mine.

I think I removed the cover originally when mounting the tail tidy as I thought the wiring would be there. but as I recall now they actuallly reside in the pylon section.
