This is probably stupid question, but I don't yet own a manual. Under the seat, inside the subframe is an long oval shaped 34pin electrical device built in rubber that literally mounts like a grommet inside the subframe. I'm stripping the bike out in the shop, and picked up my phone to try to search. This site HATES my iPhone and only let's me put one letter at a time in the search box then closes it.
Bonus question, where are us 1199 owners with service manual options presently?
Thanks
Brett

? CAN BUSS box ? And service manual is on USB thumb drive for several bikes I believe, but I could be wrong.....:0

Open the search box and then click on advanced search when utilizing the iPhone

Thanks for that Phil

That is the ECM? I was under the assumption that the large rectangular plastic box under the right upper fairing was the ecm, but only because of it's size and wiring arrangement.
The manual on thumbdrive, is that available at the dealer? Cost? Boy, I miss having a physical book to thumb through!

Thanks,
Brett

The ECU resides in the right hand electronics holder under the fairing. The BBS module that you are referring to, sits inside a rubber housing under the seat, and is responsible for a host of functions, not least traction control, fan hysteresis, dda to name but a few. It seems as if both the ECU and BBS module work in tandem, with the ECU performing the main stay of engine parameters, namely fuelling, throttle butterfly position (RBW), DTC etc. If anyone has a breakdown of what the CAN bus apportions to each unit, in terms of sensor feeds, I would be interested to read it

The BBS (black box ) talks to the ECU and dash . Your right it controls almost everything on the bike including quick shift gear position traction control etc etc and display on the dash as well as host of other features ..
