Fellow Members-
Well, by now those of yoo's guys who go out Club Racing have either put in some laps already or prepping for the first race of the season. God I miss it guys! Spent over 6-7 yrs doing that stuff and unfortunately now, I'm too broken myself. I'd never say "Too Old" because Im even sure there are some members on here out doing the Formula 40 Class which is absolutely awesome!
So anyway, whether you are just starting this "Hobby" or have been doing it for years - I know every one of you has wondered at some point "Hey, what bike parts need to be safety wired, and which ones don't?" My belief was ALWAYS find a spot to safety wire, as much as humanly possible. No doubt alot of it will require very intricate drilling of material as well.
If you ever read the WERA or CCS Rulebook your head is no doubt spinning like the Safety Wire Pliers you'll see in the link I'm posting below. (BTW- that pair shown is exactly the same as I've used forever and they are the absolute best IMHO!) There are most definitely major items which require really secure safety wiring, and then others which could go either way. On the SV650 I sold our faithful Moderator "Phil" I pretty much had EVERYTHING wired up good on that ride! Here's that link for a short article that came out in MotoAmerica today.
MotoAmerica Tech Tip #14: Put Some Wire On It | MotoAmerica
You will all hear different opinions when it comes to safety wiring for "Track Days" and all I can say is once again - follow their rulebooks or call for the Tech Inspectors advice. Again, IMHO it's always better to "Overdo" it when it comes to safety wiring bikes for either Track Days or Club Racing. Why not, right? That one single friggin bolt or something is bound to back off and end your day or someone else around ya! Don't ask me why the hell I'm writing this today, maybe to try and remain in touch with that side of me which truly misses the sport so much. Maybe I'm envious and now living thru all of yoo's. Either way guys, again either way, stay safe, stay motivated, and stay SAFETY WIRED UP!!!
Gunny Out.............
Ps. Here are both WERA & CCS Rulebooks in case anyone wants to read the Technical Requirements for either. Put it this way, if you safety wire your bike according to either Club's Tech Specs - you will without a doubt be covered for ANY Track Day Organization!

***I'm willing to bet half of you didn't know there is another Club who has their own Rulebook? Matter of fact, its where I began my journey into the sport and rode my first laps around a track (Cmon, tell me you don't remember that feeling all you guys who do this!!??) The Loudon Road Race Series is the Organization and their track is called "The New Hampshire Motor Speedway" where they race NASCAR, and the oldest Motorcycle Roadracing School in the States is hosted - "The Penguin Riding School" Penguin Road Racing School - Homewhere I broke my cherry right there in those photos! Ever heard of Jerry, Scott or Jeff Wood? If so, you know their history & background. Lastly (Phew) Can any of you TRUE Ducati enthusiasts, or Old Timers like myself, know what that bike is and if you can tell who really built it - or where it came from - I will mail you a set of grips or something brand new that I have in my garage! (It's NOT the one I've posted in other pics either- but its what I started Club Racing on LONG AGO!
**Thanks for bearing with me and my nostalgic trip. At least I threw in a little Safety Wire info right? LMAO.
