Seat height

Original owner of my 1299S had the rear lowered, I much prefer it this way than super tall.
However, the exhaust manifold that loops over the rear hugger/mudguard scorched it and caused it to bubble.
Eventually I’ll replace with a carbon fiber one which will hold up to the heat better

Definitely going to have it done by a professional for about $100.
I think an inch would make a huge difference on the new hypermotard 950 sp. I am 5 foot 8 inch tall and tip toeing at the moment.

Let us know how it turns out. I too am a bit short to flat foot this bike, but I adapted and always shift my body to one side or the other to flat foot one side. I really like the ergonomics once both feet are on the pegs, and lowering the seat would mess that up.

Have you thought about lowering the bike via the suspension?

No, not messing with anything other than the seat foam. I’ve heard stories on how lowering suspension really screws up the handling.

So I took the seat to a guy today that said he would do it . When he started taking it apart he noticed that the plastic from the seat has some ridges that are raised just under where the main dip is, so if he shaved it , I would be sitting on the ridges without much foam padding. so we decided not to do it.

That really sucked, I was looking forward to having it lowered. Has anyone done anything else?

F/U on the lower seat..

To my surprise , I got the Ducati 20mm lower seat for Christmas, something I did not want to buy due to only being 20mm lower.
I really didn't think 20mm would make a difference to justify spending $300 .

Well, surprise surprise.. I put the seat on and for the first time , I was able to put the balls of Both feet down. If I shift my but as I use to with the stock seat, I can actually flat foot one side.
With the stock seat being so high and me being 5 foot 8 inches tall, every time I stopped, I had to plan where my foot was going to land which really sucked. Always worried at an intersection if I would be able to reach or not. Now, I can put either foot down without even thinking about it. I can't believe how much more enjoyable it is to ride not having to worry about where I need to strategically stop for a good foot plant.

I am thankful to my wife who heard me on the phone with a dealer researching this lower seat, asking him if I should get it or not. 20 mm is basically the size of a US Penney , doesn't seem like it would make any difference but holy cow , it really does.

To those who are contemplating this seat, don't overthink it like I did. I was out with my bike and a ruler trying to convince myself of a 20mm difference.
The thing is , you can't just go by the 20mm. The dip in the seat is more than the stock, making it seem lower than 20mm. The ride as far as cushion is no difference than the stock.
One thing I did notice is when giving full throttle , with the stock seat I would slide back a little. With the new seat, due to more of a dip, I don't slide at all.
The new seat looks more dipped like the 939 seat.

So to those vertically challenged, these $300 is a complete bike comfort makeover , trust me, it is the best advice to shorter ridders that I can give you, you will be pleasantly surprised.

Can anyone with the lowered seat post a comparison picture with the regular seat, sitting on the bike with feet on the ground?

Very curious to see a side by side comparison.

Confused. The Ebay item lists a racing seat by item number, prices it at the cost of the lowered seat, and claims it is also a lower than stock. Sent him a message to clarify.

Follow up:
The ebay vendor has a 751A lowered seat as well. Made a bid and am picking one up for a good price.

I will post comparison pictures when installed.

does anyone know of a lowered seat for the v4s? I am in a similar position to op

I just bought and took delivery of the 950 RVE and it is REALLY sharp!. It shipped to the US as a 2021 model.....one of only 100 units shipped and it came with a number badge. It is indeed, basically the 950 with the graphics package and the quick shift....and a number badge for "bragging rights". The SP is going to have a seat height that's even TALLER by 20 mm (35 in vs 34.2). I'm 5'7" and purchased the low seat just to get the balls of both feet on the asphalt. The bike is really a blast but will take some getting used to with sitting up high.....
FYI....Corbin seats makes a seat for the 950 with much different ergonomics and will likely give a lower 'standing' seat height, much like the Ducati Lower Seat. You may want to check it out:
