Hello all, thanks for having me. I own a Sportster 1200 and have ridden for a year and around 5,000mi. I recently fell in love the the new 22-23 SF V2 and V4. I love the aesthetics and software. I have always wanted a Ducati and have seen them as the pinnacle of motorcycles. I am just hesitant to purchase due to the cost. I also know someone selling a used 15’ SF 848 tuned with exhaust in great condition 7,000mi & well maintained. We haven't talked money but im thinking around $7,500.00. Im torn on what to do. I am very hesitant due to the cost difference but am not very knowledgeable about the 848 SF. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I'd lean to the more modern bikes. That generation of SF was pretty brutal IIRC.

Ducati, while still having room to grow, has made leaps and bounds in their manufacturing. I believe this is the parent company Lamborghini/Audi/Volkswagen influence creeping in. It seems one Audi/Volkswagen took over Lambo they had similar improvements.

What exactly do you mean by brutal ? I have read quite a few good things on the 848. Some even calling it the best SF but I certainly don't believe everything I read. Just looking for constructive criticism and some better insight. Do you mind to elaborate ? I definitely see what you mean by newer tech on these bikes is amazing. Thnx again

The older Ducati's were less rider friendly. All of the electronics on the new bikes really make them pretty manageable especially considering the power they are putting down.

Probably best to test ride both to see what you like . With the sf848 You will be fine without rider aids on the road

I have an 848EVO SuperBike and an SFV2, they are chalk and cheese. The 848 has no safety kit like ABS or traction control so you want to know what you're doing, fortunately it does behave itself pretty well when sliding but YMMV. I prefer the old 848 motor myself and 140hp is plenty scary. Good luck !
