Figured it might be helpful to share these settings. Its just a travesty to leave the bike at the stock settings, so here goes. Please try and provide as much info as possible for other similar riders to try. I've tried to put together a handy template.

Front Preload (total) - 38mm
Rear Preload (total) - 30mm

Front Compression - 23
Front Rebound - 17
Rear Compression - 15
Rear Rebound - 9

Suspension Linkage (F or P) - F

Rear Shock Length - Stock

Additional Changes and Notes - These are my settings in RACE mode. In SPORT mode which I use on the street I dont use as much compression. I subtract 5 from the compression numbers. I also have a 9.0Nm spring on order, since I was told my rear spring is too heavy for my weight. I will report back later.

Maybe add what type of riding your doing. City riding/ Twisties/ Track

Riding - Mostly twisties

Additional Changes and Notes - Forks are soon to be replaced with Ohlins FRGT 203. I'll report back after that change.

So looking at these numbers I'm confused. From what I can tell you are only slightly over the weight Ducati set the bike up for 75kg.

However your settings in RACE mode are soft, and your post is telling me you make your suspension harder for the road.

I understood The Ducati compression 'click' numbers in DES are the opposite of what you'd expect. A higher compression click number is less compression, so 28 is softer than 10. For rebound its it works the opposite - higher number is more rebound.

I'm very happy to be corrected here because these electronic suspensions confuse the .... outta me (on my HP4 as well!)

So a lower number is stiffer? If that is so, I have been riding around stiffer than in my Race mode... haha

That may cover more than 99% percent of the owners. Including me.:mad:
 
The DES DAMPING on the 2010-2012 Multistrada uses an inverse scale. I can't comment on the 1199 S but if the manual states so I would think that it uses the same.

This setup was done by my dealer based on 205lbs with gear and in the notes it says the front spring rate is good and the rear is a little stiff. They said this would be a good starting point for street and track based on weight.
 
I'm only 170 and my rear shock would bottom out with those settings.

Squat like crazy as well.
 
I'm no expert that's why I'm relying on someone who hopefully has more experience than myself on suspension setup. It didn't feel like it was squatting excessively and it didn't bottom out after 300 mile ride around the mountain. So, not sure what else to do other than continue to try it out. Hopefully the preload is good so its just a matter of fine tuning for my preference but any thoughts you have on this are appreciated.

No I was actually serious. Is the stock spring too weak for an average male rider(180lbs)?

I know my stock 1098 was too weak for anyone heavier than 160lbs. But I actually thought the stock 1199 was outfitted with heavier springs from factory. If I'm wrong and I more likely need a stiffer spring, please advise?

I remember back in the day of the 996, there were two options of bikes with different spring rates. Monoposto and Biposto (single seat vs passenger). I wish they would go back to that option.

From everything I've read and after the setup of my suspension by my dealer I would say at 180lbs your spring will be on the stiff side for you weight.

Im sorry then, I thought you were commenting on my incorrect springrate typo. I wrote 90nm when it should have been 9.0nm.
 
Oh I misread Evols post. So the spring is too heavy, not the other way around. That's a better situation than when I had the 1098. But still not ideal.

Evol no worries bro. You misread, I misread, it happens. There is no emotion within the internet unfortunately.
