Shell Advance 4t 15w-50

Many Ducati dealers have the Shell oil now, we just got a program set up with Shell about 2 weeks ago to finally start importing it into the U.S. This has been a LONG time coming, everyone is very excited to finally be able to use the same oil the bikes come from the factory with.

i couldn't believe it in the beginning looking for oil for the 1199... i must have visited a dozen SHELL gas stations in the area and none had Shell oil! good to see the good stuff swapping over... I have used shell in all bikes back in Deutschland.

Nice to know, my clutch worked better with the 4T Shell over the Motol 300V 15w50, and since I have to order that on line as well as my filters, I'll start buying the shell.

So, here is a question. Is the motul 300v not worth the money? And is the shell better?

That question will lead to about a 10 page thread debating the undebatable. Bottom line, use the correct grade for your climate that also meets Ducati's minimum requirements. Any top-shelf synthetic will protect your motor and give you many years of protection. The differences among the leading manufacturers fully synthetic oil is very small. The only way to accurately & definitively verify your choice is to send in a sample for a used oil analysis(UOA) from Blackstone Labs.

Very wise words indeed;)

How many quarts does the Pani use anyways?

And where is the best place to get an oil filter? Amazon?!?! And brake fluid? I'm about to do my fluids :D

It's awesome that it's finally being imported here.. Rumor is that Ducati is making the shell advance 4t a required oil for the new 1299. According to the dealership. My dealer uses bel-air but now theit having to get rid of it and get shell oil.

I believe it's 3.7 quarts, I buy my filters from Ducati Omaha, they sell the filter and if you want the o-rings and washer, they also sell that. As far brake fluid I use brembo racing

Thanks. I'm about to buy all the fluids for a change in a couple of weeks.

More dumb questions :) : So the "Castrol 06412 Power RS 10W-50 4-Stroke Motorcycle Oil" should work for the engine right? And how much of the dot4 racing brake fluid do I need for brake and clutch? 2 bottles of 500mL?

TIA

no such thing as required oil. they can't make you use specific brands of oil.

one bottle of brake fluid should do clutch brake and rear brake. remember when doing rear brake you have to take the caliper off and turn it right side up . its upside-down on the bike. if you don't do this you will never get the air out.

I'm not sure how many quarts it uses, That would depend on your individual bike.
The Oil capacity is listed by DUCATI as 3.7 litres.
But it won't take that much and it will be way overfilled if you replace the drained oil with 3.7 litres.
The service refill capacity is more like 3.5- 3.55 litres even if the scavenging pump is evacuated/drained and the bike left to drain a very long time(when good and hot).

But...... 300v is unquestionably the best smelling oil in existence :p

I also think the colour is amazing :D:D:D

The oil that's stated in the manual is a very good guide as to the "type and grade" of oil that's required. (climate dependant of course;))

The Shell Advance Ultra 4T is, and always has been a very good choice of a high quality oil.

I feel as though this, and most, if not all, partnerships are based on the deal, kickbacks, and executive bulls**t. In a couple of years Mobil will offer Ducati more money and then the factory will say to buy Mobil oil. IMHO as I work for a corporate 100 company and it's not what the commercials say haha.

I'm hearing you;)

Regarding DUCATI's oil of preference.
While Mobil is great stuff, I think the deeply entrenched tie up with the big Italians(Ducati, Ferrari, Maserati, etc).
I think Shell is here to stay for a long time.
Especially if they continue to deliver the goods as required.

Ducati threw their hat in the ring with Agip back in the day, and that was for quite a long time.

I've been pushing for it and now my dealer informed me he too is expecting shipments. My understanding (which is limited) of the major difference is the base stocks, ester vs. Polyalphaolefins. Ester processing demands higher costs. The bigger question is whether they work for your bike. I found a homegrown mix was best for my racebike.
