where do you get your shell oil?
do you stick with the ducati recommendation?

i tried 3 shell gas stations i the area, they all sell no-name crap or different brands.

the net just gave me results in the UK ???

shell rotella T6, available at most walmarts and o'rielly's that I know of, I'm sure there are many more. great oil, great price.
 
Gunny, was on vacation in Cali the past 2 wks.

Shell rotella, hmmm. Saw that at the wal. Thought it was for trucks. Still trying to get the ultra 4T...

Got it. They don't sell this brew here in the US. Will check with the dealer what they poured in at 621.
 
yup it is great for diesels, also the good thing about the T6, 5W-40 is it is JASO MA compliant.

(JASO MA = Japanese standard for special oil which can be used in 4-stroke motorcycle engine with one oil system for engine, gearbox and wet clutch system. Fluid is non-friction modified.)

Don't knock it. Racers have been using diesel oil for years in 1500+ hp motors. With the advent of catalytic converters in cars the oil companies had to remove the zinc as it ruined converters. Zincs primary purpose in oil was to coat and lubricate "rubbing" parts, such as the cam, lifters, rocker arms and valve stem tips. The diesel oil continued to use it. They also use a bunch of additives geared toward getting a diesel engine producing 1850 ft lbs of torque to last literally a million miles hauling 80,000 lbs everyday. Diesel oil is as good as it gets. That being said, I'm buying my oil from Duc dealer as I really dont know what requirements this new engine design has, and prefer to know there will be no excuses to not warranty my engine should it fail. Yup, $20 a liter.
 
yup that's why I have switched all my vehicles from mobil 1 to this. when the EPA or whoever mandated the reduced the zinc content in their regular oils for the saving of cats(not sure when but with in the last 5 years in the last round to reduce the zinc content significantly). I switched all my oil to this for that reason also. long term use of the regular synthetic mobil one(which what I used to use) has notice an increase in valvetrains wear over the long periods of time 75k - 100k in some vehicles.

did the oil change last night.
got 3600 miles on the bike now and must admit, i am very happy i did it.
why? the amount of metal on the magnet and the glitter coming out of the case while flushing with new oil.

BTW, also put a 14T sprocket on my bike.
the most complicated sprocket change i ever made. take off clutch slave, shift rod, chain guide (the one with the rubber part above the exhaust can- at least i got to clean it right, finally)...

only high traffic this morning, so couldn't see the real effect, might take the diva to the 1/8 mile tonight...

tell them to put it in their webshop and i will order it right away. if that type would have been available it would be in my motor now. ...

why does the sticker on the frame show 10w-40 then?

it is like telling us to ride on supercorsas with only dunlops available in the US. :confused:
 
I use Moterex on my KTM SMR but the stealer said not to use it on the Duc. Why not? It's great oil.
 
Motorex does not have 10w40 though.
if I can't get Agip, I'll go with Silkolene
 
After my first service the Dealer recommended Spectro or Motorex. They said Motorex was a better oil, but costs more. I decided to go with Motorex. I wasn't happy with that decision. After I started the bike the next day it smoked like a diesel engine.. It smoked every time I started it..
I did some research and decided to give Bel-Ray 15w50 a try. Happy to say I have had no smoke since I changed to it.
