I installed a Shorai Battery today. I weighed it before fitting and then weighed the old stock one coming out.

Shorai - just shy of 700 grams and the old stock 2600 grams. You really feel the difference when you hold both.

Fitting was simple with the extra sticky pads that come in the box. Remember to remove the black trim above the fairing before you pull the fairing off and you will not break the tabs.

The first photo is the std battery on the scale at 2.6kg

The second is the new Shorai at just short of 700 grams.

The third photo shows the use of the pads to fill the space and I also put a zip tie on for added security.

Have they come down in price yet? I'll probably install one whenever it's time to replace factory battery.

Skyrich is the Ducati OEM Lithium battery supplier and makes a direct fit battery. SkyRich part number is YT7B-BS [HJT9B-FP] for $115. [8 pbeq,190 Cold Cranking Amps, 1.8 lbs]

Shorai Lithium is part LFX18A1-BS12 and motowheels makes a fitment kit for $189. [18 Ah, 270 CCA, 2.3 lbs]

OEM Yuasa YT7B-BS. [6.5 Ah, 85 CCA, 5.6 lbs]

I would be tempted to get the Shorai for the additional capacity although the price/value on the SkyRich is hard to beat. Either one is going to perform better than the OEM, not that I've experienced any issues with it.

Yah, no problems with stock either. And frankly, ~4 pounds won't make that much of a difference. But I'll probably go with a lighter battery if whenever I have to replace stock down the road.

Part number

Part number?

The part number I used was LFX14A2-BS12. 210 cold cranking amps. This is the recommendation from the Australian distributor and may not be the same as the website recommends.

The weight of that one is about 1.54 lbs and you can see that is about right with my shot of the scales. That makes it lighter and a little more powerful than the Skyrich Ducati SL one.

I think a good solution and the price here is $209 AUD. If you do the conversion about the same as what you guys pay in the USA.

There is no Shorai battery designed for the Panigale as long as the performance is comparable and battery terminals layout is similar to stock everything is fine. The really high capacity Shorai I posted above is pretty close in size to the stock battery (but not quite), which explains the very high capacity.

The battery that your using is also a good choice especially if the goal is low weight (though no fitment kit), LFX14A2-BS12 $159 (US) [14 Ah, 210 CCA, 1.5 lbs]

No doubt there are many dozen excellent choices for lightweight replacement batteries.

I have a Shorai LFX18A12 from my old 1198 that I wanted to use on the 1299 but the 1299 + power cable won't quite reach over the battery's + terminal
Has anyone fitted this battery and had to move the cable?!
I was not comfortable trying to get some slack out of the cable!

anyone have a link to the longer cable?!

I use EarthX lithiums, as they are superior batteries. The built-in balancer means I can trickle charge them without using specialized lithium chargers. It also means that the bike's own electrical system, which doesn't know the difference between lead-acid or lithium batteries, won't be able to charge some cells more than others.

When I purchased my 1199 back in MaY 2012 the dealer gave me a Junior Battery Fighter charger that has a trickle function. When I purchased the Shorai I asked the Aus distributor whether I could still use this charger or did I have to buy the Shorai charger. He looked up the JBF one on his list and said fine to use.

I also have a Shorai in my Husaberg and have another Junior Battery Fighter charging it and works fine. Both have been working well in both bikes for over 15 months. I recommend the Shorai.

Just buy the Shorai model that matches the terminals.

I will if I can't get a longer negative terminal lead, I'd rather not take the hit on having to buy another new battery though when I have a perfectly good one sat here which I only used for 6 months on my old 1198!
Motorwheels sell a lead with the battery, I'll contact them to see if they will sell me a lead separately

Does Skyrich support Battery tender Jr? I'm interested as its for OEM fit and OEM SL battery.

I have Skyrich in all my panigales, fits perfect and is a direct OEM replacement. Actually on the SL skyrich is OEM. I dont know for the 2015 R. I plug them to a regular modern battery tender, works perfect.
