I as many of you have a helmet buying problem. I as many of you have tried to get the free skully helmet. i as many of you probably think it was just a ploy to get plenty of email addresses for mass marketing (brillant by the company since nobody knows anyone that tested these).

anybody order one?

no.

viral marketing without a product to show for it. a bunch of the guys over here in SF and surrounding nearby areas are a little miffed at how they handled it.

Yeaaaa my I ordered one and so did my gf... I actually don't think it's that expensive for what it is

Let me know when you get one so I can come check it out. My biggest gripe with this thing is that they didn't separate out the electronics from the protection.

1) The protection is fouled after a single hit (and the electronics are likely fine)
2) The electronics will be obsolete in a few years (and the shell likely just fine)

So it seems silly to me that these things are not modular and swappable. That said, this is gen1 so that's the price you pay for early access to bleeding edge tech.

will do... and yes there should definitely be a way to swap out the electronics although insurance should cover the helmet in its entirety in the event of an impact. I was looking at the new garmin Zumo 590 and at 800 bucks for just the GPS that brings the cost of the helmet down quite a bit. we were both one of the first 25 to order so at 1299 with gps and the audio and rear view camera i really didnt even think about it before pulling the trigger

great point right there

The electronics are not swappable, according to skully. They allege that by the time electronics are obsolete, you'll be at your 3-4 year mark where you should be replacing the helmet anyway.

It's extraordinarily expensive for what it is. A poorly designed non-aesthetically pleasing helmet powered by what amounts to a $100 android phone.

Major red flag when 100% of the marketing is around the electronics and nothing about the materials and construction of the helmet.
