So I sold my 1299 S a few weeks ago to buy a New Jeep Grand Cherokee High Altitude edition for my snow boards/snow gear, hauling my rifles/range gear and golf clubs/push cart that doesn't fit in the Lexus all that well. A month went by and its getting warmer so I got the itch to ride again. I went looking at several different bikes and I ended up with the Panigale R today. I really thought I was going to get the Aprillia RSV4 RF that was on hold for me. I could of got 2 R1's or 2 S1000RR for the price of the R but this bike is the real deal. No matter how many time i test ride different bikes or ride my buddies bikes there is always something missing. I keep coming back to the Panigale maybe because to me the twins are so much fun to ride in the streets and canyons. The Panigale R is a special bike and it will be a keeper. My track days are coming too far in between and its a shame that I probably do only a couple of tracks days a year on this R. I guess I got too many hobbies.
The 1299S and the Panigale R are like night and day. The S has that low and mid range grunt but mellows off at the upper range (only because Ducati won't unleash the 1299 because they can't have it faster than their flag ship model the R). The R spins up so quickly you have to watch that shift light or you'll hit the Rev limiter really quick and the engine is so smooth it take some getting use to shifting its hard to feel the revs building. You can only feel the massive pull all the way to the top. The R doesn't have that mid range grunt that the 1299 has but its still more than any other bike out there. Up top there is nothing like it, its a freak!
