That was a hard nut to crack. While working on the rebuild of my crashed 1199S, I permanently got a speed sensor error on the dash, with TC and ABS functions disabled.

Today I had a chance to put the bike on the ducati diagnostic systems. It said that the front sensor is making troubles. This piece is a real PITA to deinstall, since it's plug is directly above the front cylinder's spark plug.

Anyway, after 4hrs of forensic work I could find a fatique crack in the sensor's cable! Both braids (cable consists of two braids only) were broken at the same spot. It's were cable runs between left front fork tube and monocoque.

BTW: Bike's speed is only derived from the rear speed sensor.

Interesting. I had a similar issue, but mine was where the wire would go under the fender. Stupid design to have the wire go right next to the tire, but I probably made it worse while putting on tire warmers causing the wire to strip. Soldered it back on and moved the wire from under the fender and all was OK. This was just one wire though, didn't even know there were two.

Do you have any tips on this job? The pics are no longer up. I have the same issue and I can see where the wires are exposed on my front sensor against the left fork so I am sure mine needs replacing.

Also you mentioned the speed is derived from the rear sensor, but mine is not showing the speed. Did yours still show yours speed when the front sensor was out?

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

This is a tough job without taking the radiator off. I rigged a strong light on the clutch side and took the plastic cover off above the ABS unit in the brake side. This allows you to get your hand between the radiator and engine from the brake side but not much room to manoeuvre. There are two tabs to deal with. One mounts the cord to the swivel and the other holds the cord into the switch. Before attempting suggest you take a good look at both tabs on the replacement cord. If you are putting the replacement cord on for track application, as others have said, route the cable over the fender rather than under it so that tyre warmers don’t kill it.
