anyone know why some shots show 1199S with Ohlins steering damper (stickers at least) and others show unbranded damper ?

This was the view of the 1199 S at the IMS:

The Ohlins logo is stamped into the steering damper, which is all silver instead of the gold Ohlins logo. This is the same color style of Ohlins steering dampers that come stock with other motorcycles too (i.e. the new ZX-10R).

It is my understanding that, in order to differentiate a steering damper purchased aftermarket versus one that comes stock on a motorcycle, the stock ones are silver and the aftermarket ones have the gold logo.

The stock version of the Ohlins steering dampers are good, but not as good as an aftermarket one. The aftermarket Ohlins allow greater dampening. That said, for the majority of all riders, a stock silver Ohlins is more than adequate IMHO.

Mmm...

The latest 2011/12 aftermarket ones I have seen are all silver and the gold sticker ones are the older units.
Now I am confused:confused:

 Really? I wasn't aware of that. Hmm now I'm curious to know for certain. Inquiring minds want to know...

Just fitted the aftermarket ttx rear shock to my 1098r.
The steering damper that was for sale in the dealer was aftermarket; it's engraved with Ohlin's and a slightly darker shade of silver than the OEM one.
Will ask tomorrow when I pick the bike up.

The aftermarket ones are better but all you need to do is send to ohlins and have them re valve it for $100 or so and it will be exact as the after market ones.

Now as far as the logo its probably a way to differentiate the stock versus the aftermarket ones as someone has already said.

No, all of the new Ohlins Dampers have the silver logo, including the aftermarket units.
All of the previous dampers I've seen have a blue logo, I've never seen a gold one.

Is this for sure:confused:
if true what an inexpensive way to upgrade the suspension

Has anyone upgraded this by sending the stock OEM Ohlins back to the company?
