Strada Quick Throttle for 1299

This subject got started here: http://ducatiforum.com/racing/30164-bsb-john-hopkins-panigale-r.html#post300238. If you skip the end of the video on Hopkins bike, the tech talks about the throttle they use on his Pani... Hyperstrada throttle housing with a modded tube and stiffer spring. Does anyone have any thoughts on the feasibility of fabricating this upgrade for the 1299?

I was at BeFaster in Hannover just before Xmas, and the owner (Ralf Müller ) was chatting about the use of the Hyperstrada throttle assy as he had commissioned a number of Connectors (male to male I think) for the task.
I think it would be worth contacting him directly, as he speaks English, and discuss the factors involved. reflash etc.

Yes, the Strada connector is male and the Pani is female. I was hoping you could just use the Strada housing and the Pani wiring, but it sounds like that won't work; which isn't surprising.

It may be rather involved, but it's worth checking into so I shot Ralf an email. Thanks.

Just throwing it out there, Tuneboy has throttle map switching, one of the selections is a "quick throttle" 70% turn. I know it is a deep subject on types of tuning, but you could just purchase a Tuneboy tune only without cruise, Flash the ECU yourself to get the quick turn function. If you contact Tuneboy they might do a stock tune with only the throttle maps. I know They do one just to disable O2 sensors. You could still use a piggyback controller for tuning if you like those better. I think Woolich racing has quick turn throttle maps too, and both are user flash so you can reverse it anytime.

Yes, I have Tuneboy, but that doesn't address the physical WOT stop. And yes, I'm aware of the tube mods: http://ducatiforum.com/ducati-1299/25264-quickturn-throttle.html. This is probably the easiest way to go, but it doesn't hurt to have all the options.

It would be nice to have a heavier spring... I don't know if that has anything to do with the Strada housing. Anyone?

It would also be good to know how much quicker the Strada is. Anyone?

I pointed out in the other thread that the Strada throttle was recalled. Does anyone know which throttle is the one to get?

I know about the Tuneboy option but being able to switch to a throttle that physically gets you to the Stop quicker would be beneficial I think. With the Tuneboy I would probably keep repositioning my hand to get the throttle to the stop.

Yes, that's the problem with the Tuneboy, there's no change to the throttle itself... no physical stop at the mapped WOT. I mentioned the thread with tube mods to address this in my previous post. This will work, but you can't know for sure that throttle and Tuneboy map match. However, this is may be the case with the Strada mod as well. My hope is that the Strada mod is all done at the throttle... independent of the electronics. This would be comparable to installing a larger cam on a Motion Pro wired quick throttle.

Any luck with Ralf on if he is offering this mod or how to do it? I am curious myself and would like a shorter throttle to wot because i dont want to have to adjust my grip all the time to get to the full turn.

Hyper throttle on Mitsubishi ECU will not work. Different supply voltages... I'm working on two other options though, but I need some more time..

YT Vid showing how the Jetprime cable throttle conversion kit works on a BMW: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yUYTWNhUhHs

Pretty much just relocates the potentiometer off the handlebars and connects it to a conventional cable throttle with a short cable.

And a link to a random vendor's purchase page (Houston Superbikes in this case, since they came up first in the search list.) :

I see Jetprime has a digital Ducati throttle replacement on their site as well, but nothing on whether it's quick turn or not. Does integrate the start button and kill switch into the housing to free up some bar space ala the Ducabike one that moves them to the brake mount.

That cable conversion kit looks promising.

This was one bike I found the throttle twist to my liking. I have used the blocks to remove the free play though.

That throttle replacement thing looks to me like it's just a replacement cover with integrated buttons?

If you're just relocating the throttle pot to a different location and adding a different cam you need to compensate for the slack that's already in the stock unit, and you need to compensate for the OEM throttle map. I can see the reasoning if you use a linear cam and only use it to shorten the throw though, but adding non linear cams to that one can quickly lead to confusion.

No luck with Ralf... he never replied to my email.
