Should that even be possible?
Yeah, new tyre, but with level 8 traction control in wet mode, surely swapping end so violently at 20mph, shouldn't the DTC have at least controlled it?
Anyway, my 1299 is a wreck, but repairable, me, not so much, at 60 arse over ... landing on tarmac ain't a joke, sore isn't the word for it.
And to rub my nose in it, was wearing my brand new Ducati C1 jacket and that's all scuffed up too......less than half a mile, DOH!
Had better days.

Someone came to check I was ok, he said he had the same thing the day before, same spot, so I was thinking perhap traces of diesel as its right by the entrance to an industrial estate.

Anyway, wet mode, wouldn't usually use it, not even in the wet, feels lame, but can anyone explain why it didn't control the spin at level 8 which clearly I wrongly assumed it would.
 
wow, i run my bikes at 2 or 1 at the track, the rear moves but not a lot. did you perhaps hit the brakes hard ?
 
Suffered a low side at the end of last summer, 3 broken ribs at 50....I don't heal like I'm 30 anymore! Good luck with the recovery.

I have noticed in cars that you can "fool" the electronics, it is a reactionary tech that tries to stabilize you after the fact. Tried a "scandinavian flick" in an M3 once thinking I had DSC to save me, the system was so confused that it didn't intervene at all and I was lucky to apply a whole ton of opposite lock to catch it. Perhaps your scenario was similar, which puts another note in my brain to always treat the bike as if it doesn't have any aids.
 
Cant get my head around how this happened, usually when it starts spinning up in the wet the DTC kicks in really well. With no DTC the technique is to feather the throttle and aim, not cut it as that often ends up in a high side.

How new was that new tire?
 
Apologies for the tardy reply, got distracted :rolleyes:

The 'official' answer from more than one dealer was that 'no' traction control is fast enough to react to diesel. In this case, the tyre was less than 1/2 a mile old, hence I had it in wet mode.

Physics was mentioned by PHL, bang on by the sounds of it! 2nd time I've been off on diesel in Sussex, first time was a front slide at a roundabout near a filling station, let's hope 'it comes in threes' is hokum.

Put 2000 miles on the bike since then, kinda put it all behind me after 50 or so miles, the smiles are back. This 1299 tends to make 'everything else' in life seem, well a bit .... really :D
 
I had similar on an RSV4. Wet road, went for what I thought was a gentle overtake and spun the rear on the white road markings down the centre of the road. Very unexpected. Quite violent. Managed to stay on, though. New underpants were required shortly after.
