Does anyone's V4 sputter or stutter to go at first? When I start in the morning I shift to 1st then try to go but the bike begins to stutter. By the time I reach the corner the bike is fine. Thoughts?

Yes, mine started doing this immediately after the 600-mile service / oil change. As usual, I'd let it idle in neutral until i get 2 bars prior to engaging first gear and pulling out, and it is what I'd call a very abrupt, violent, sketchy clutch engagement resulting in a disconcerting stuttering start. It's fine then after a few minutes of riding with good clutch exercise, but after sitting overnight, the symptom is almost perfectly repeatable.

Mine's been in the shop for 2 weeks now because of this issue. They have checked the oil (it was very high), pulled the clutch discs apart and sanded and soaked them, replaced the clutch slave cylinder, and are now trying to adjust the oil pressure. So far, no luck fixing this.

Crap... mine has 450 miles now so haven't done the service yet. Yes repeatable every morning too

Have the same issue. Both before as well as after the first service. I’m just ignoring it..

Okay thanks guys, that is some good info. I was pretty sure something got mucked up during the oil service, but it looks like that's not the case. My shop is working on it hard and I'll report back with any findings.

No ,mine takes off cleanly. But before the first service,it did not want to start if I left it for more than 2 days. At the service they did the fuel line recall update and the computer updates. Problem solved. The parts weren't in for the clutch recall or the cooling system recall yet. I'm led to believe the clutch recall has something to do with the slave cylinder.

A follow-up on this....

Mine was in the shop for weeks for this issue. It was highly repeatable and the techs verified there was a true problem. Ultimately, after going back and forth with DNA and trying a few things, they best determined it was low oil pressure to the clutch area. It should be 1.1-1.2 bar, but mine was about half that... according to two new V4-speciifc gauges that each gave inconsistent readings.

The oil pressure apparently can be adjusted with a set screw that sits behind the front sprocket, and so they set mine identical to another V4 which never exhibited these symptoms. They also blew out the oil plumbing with compressed air, in case there was a blockage, perhaps from some stray gasket material.

After all of this, they tested it for half a week and the issue seems to be resolved, and I've had it for a couple days with no issues either.

They did mention (and I agree) that if the issue reoccurs, its no cause to stop riding the bike (it does behave normally after a few minutes of riding), but to let them know and they'll continue troubleshooting. They also mentioned they are getting complaints of this sort from a few other dealerships and it seems to be an oil pressure issue.... not to the engine, but to the clutch area. They claim there is no risk of engine damage, but the clutch plates may not be getting wet enough with oil for smooth initial engagements into fist gear after sitting overnight or longer.

Aside from this issue, my bike behaves perfectly and it's a fantastic mean machine. I have 1,100 mile on it, and LOVE it! :)

I'm going give my dealer this info. Thanks!!!

Hey guys. I am having this same problem. You think I could take out the set screw and blow it out and see if that works. Not to happy with my dealer. Anyone done this on this own?

I had the problem for me it was a bad clutch basket and some spacers.

I Also had a clutch basket replaced but not only was my clutch grabbing which is still does occasionally but I also had pulsation score
I got though the clutch lever when engaging

Well this is hard to hear, dam bikes cost so much, they seem like German cars that break all the time?? I always wanted a duc but if this starts giving me issues, I’ll set it on fire and buy a gsxr1000 again and have nothing to worry again. Very hard hearing some of these issues. Maybe duc better stop changing .... all the time and master what they have??

Im also experiencing this on my V4. From a stop, while releasing the clutch lever, the clutch is jerky. It only happens on cold starts. No problems once the bike is moving.

Has anyone been able to sort this out?

Pulling in the clutch lever and revving the motor a few times seems to help. Sometimes it does not happen at all.
