Hey guys,

I'm currently deciding between a 1299S with arround 500km and a new V4 Standard.

I enjoyed both bikes while i feel that the 1299S is more emotional the V4 feels easier to ride.
Based on looks i prefer the rear from V4 but front from 1299 so also no winner there.

I'd be happy if someone with experience from the Ducati world could give some pointers :)

By the way i'm coming from the S1000RR because a few years ago the 1299S was just out of budget :D

Greetings.

There is no clear winner there they are both great bikes . If you are new to Ducati's go the twin and see what all the fuss is about . I like the 1299 as a street bike over the V4 personally.

Hi i think you wont be disappointed with either bike,

i road the s1000rr before the 1299, and as soon as i got off the 1299 i signed the sale.....

for me its the brutality of the power delivery ( torque) that won me over....
Mfg

With the V2, you have to muscle your way into the corner, tamed the beast in the corner and exist the corner, playing gently or carefully with the gas, you actually gotta understand the bike and ride it accordingly. V4 is so easy to ride, make you feel like you could cut a seconds or two of your personal best at track at ease, kinda like the S1000RR but with a bit of ducati character, twin pulse firing, single side swing arm, Come in red and red only, Italian sexiness....
Apple and orange mate, it's your money and it's your ride.....ultimate decision is in your hand.

Thank you for your answers.

Some people adviced me not to buy the 2015 1299s but the 2016 instead. I can't find any reasons for that or are there some things i missed?

Only one answer here.....you need both. Buy the 1299 now and buy a v4 in a year or two when they are sorted a little more.

You should ride my 1299 sounds like something was not quite right with your bike

I would love to upgrade every year but unfortunately i'm unable to afford that :)
So if i buy a 1299S now i will atleast ride it 2 years, more likely 3.

Can you give reasons why you prefer the 1299 over thr V4?

I don't prefer just think it's s nicer street bike due to having bottom end torque you can enjoy riding it without hsving to keep it in the higher rev range much like the BMW you just had .
No difference between a 2015 or 16 any electronic upgrade can be done to the 15 model .
Early days for the V 4 to see what it's really like most people who own them most likely have not lived with it long enough to give you a true feedback other than they are excited to have a new bike .
Good points for the V 4 are easy access to air filter over the previous bike better more weight over the rear wheel better electronics but the L twin was a easy bike to work on and better quality IMO .

You will enjoy it they are really nice bikes

Have similar impression. Had riding BMW S1000RR for a year and decided to sell it because it was a kind of "boring bike"(before had riding SF848 and I missed Ducati personality in BMW)
If V4 is similar to S1000RR go for 1299S that I really enjoy.

I agree with this comment. At the time of purchase I could have bought any bike I wanted. The common 4 Japanese bikes or the BMW, MV, Aprilla or the Ducati. My main reason for going with the Ducati and not the others was the brute force or the 1299 and how it felt riding. It was and is like nothing out there. It just feels mental. Plus the bike looks dead sexy!!! Will I get a V4 in the future. Yes. But it will be the V4R and if its not mental and looks different than the std V4S or Speciale I will pass. I still have not come to grips with the overweight looks of the V4 and that silver frame. If the V4R can look like it went on a diet and has the je ne sais quoi feeling I am buying it. Good luck with your decision.

The v4 really would look better with a black frame imo

If your moving from BMW to 1299s vs V4 base. Brute power, Sexiness, and tail looks won't matter much if the bike is giving you second degree burns on your inner tighs and roasting your arse and balls. Wait a while and see what the public says about the V4 before you make the move. The V4 is believed to be more comfortable heat wise. As far as buying a 1299s check your private sellers in your area or region. Some owners are willing to give a fire sale price to unload their 1299 or 1199 because there to hot, or they want a beemer, or they want a Tuono... I would wait a fee months and go o n some test rides.

Have you ridden a V4 yet?

I own one, and have ridden the 1299S quite a bit as well. It has plenty of low end torque, and is a much better street machine. It doesn't lug below 4k and you can get to single digit mph before ever needing to start slipping the clutch. The velocity stacks keep the torque curve almost perfectly flat, it pulls just as hard from down low as it does from higher RPMs. It isn't like an R1 where the power hits like a truck once you get to the top end RPMs, it still feels a lot like a twin, just much, much smoother.

I've carried power wheelies from 2-3krpm in 1st all the way through to the top of 4th without touching the ground. Do you really need much more torque than that for the street?
