Hello Ducati fans,

I need help removing the sump pump (item #6). I have removed the 12 bolts (item #7).

Is there anything else keeping holding/attaching this to the engine? What do I need to do next to detach it?

I need to clean out the oil mesh that is inside the sump pump. Bike has 15k miles on it now.

thanks

Drain all the oil, remove all them bolts then smack it at the bottom with a heavy plastic/rubber hammer it will pop right off.

Thanks Mick... just wanted to be sure there was nothing else holding it together before I started smacking it. Good to know. Thx much.

It's just the sealant. It took a few decent wacks. Once part of the seal gives its gets easy. Just remember that the pick up runs to the bottom so don't expect it to move completely side ways. Break the seal then drop it down

Thanks much Disco, that was very helpful. Definitely needs to be dropped down but not as easy as it sounds.. of course. I decided to move aside the plastic shroud (circled) below, this will allow you to wiggle out the sump pump pan. I was not able to get all the screws out of this plastic shroud, the one on the left (clutch side) was at a difficult angle so removed the rest of the screws and move it aside.

Surprising finding.. the oil mesh was rather clean.. I was expecting a lot of the plastic pieces I had been finding during my regular oil changes.. still a great peace of mind. that this has been examined and cleaned. All set for another 15k miles! :)

If you have been finding plastic pieces your water pump might be on the way out.

Might be worth pulling the clutch cover and checking. Not the worst job, but if you were getting beige plastic pieces and they're no longer there, you might have some damage to fix. I replaced with steel premptively, but there was no damage to mine.

I have now added water pump and clutch pack to my list of things to watch for. Thanks all for your input.

Finally got the exhaust muffler back on. Couple of things to consider.

1) I have 15k miles on the bike so the rubber bushings that this exhaust rests on needed replacement. I recommend having replacements ordered ahead of time so you save a few days. circled item #9 or part number 76411481A.

2) To install this exhaust it takes perfect alignment to mount it on these same eyelets on the bike frame. The sucker is heavy and to assist I used a lot of patience and the scissor jack to gently raise and slide it into place.
