I have to admit, after fitting the Evotech tail tidy to the 1199, the back of the bike looks sexy as f**k.
However, one small oversight, with a nice and small 7" X "5 plate attached, there's now just enough room for the stones being thrown up from the rear tire to shot blast my tail lights.
Washed the bike this morning and nearly cried :(
Those beautiful lenses now look absolutely peppered and most of the chips have turned into starburst cracks.

If anybody else out there has the same plans for a tidy, it would be worth investing in a couple of small strips of 3M to cover the upper lips of the lenses.

Meanwhile I'm off to hunt some new ones.

Gutted !!!!

Good find !!!! Will be interested to hear from people have have the DP tail tidy already. Planning to get mine too. As soon as I get a bike to attached it too...

The Ducati performance or is the way to go, yes it is eensive but is a piece of quality and well designed. I think it is perfect although took a few hours to fit.

Just completed the DP version and took for a ride yesterday.... no notice of any damage to the lenses... I will keep you posted on how the story unfolds on my side....

I was inspecting my tail lights and noticed that they look a litttle sand blasted, however, I still have the stock fender mount. I think it is more of a design that the lights are exposed not anything to do with the fender eliminator one chooses.

I'm on my 2nd tail light unit as well, got a stone through the first one. I have an Evotech tail tidy fitted but to be honest I think it could have happened with the original. 3M protection is probably a good idea.

I have an R&G tail tidy no damage but after hearing your woes I can see how it could happen.

So I bought some 0.5mm 3M film and installed it, I made a paper template (not the easiest shape !) took me about 40 mins of trimming until perfect, then cut the 3M, that stuff is tough you need some new scissors to cut it nicely, then soaped up the light and film on put it on.

About 10 mins of hair dryer action to soften the film and get it right no bubbles it stuck on hard and you cannot tell its there. It's a bit fiddlely but hopefully will sort the issue very pleased with the result.

In Australia the bikes sold with this giant mud flap looking thing. Its horrible but stops all this. Im planning on double 3Ming the tail light before I take the mudflap off.

i have cracks in mine, too, with the stock holder

I had the DP and no rock issues and now I have a couple of rock marks with the CW eliminator and integrated light installed.

$%^#$^ I haven't looked at mine but I will as soon as I get home.

I don't ride in much gravel or sand so hopefully I don't have any issues yet and I'm stopping at the auto parts store to get some protection today.

I have asked for the DP tail accessory to be installed on my R. The stock one sticks out too far and can be broken easily when trying to get off the bike while swinging ur right leg over the rear, so the DP one is a wise choice.

The CW one looks cool but IMO it is not very visible so it defeats my purpose of having proper visible turn signals. A guy who bought an R before me was having that installed and I saw how it looked and gave it a long hard thought before deciding on the DP tail plate.

3M installed prior to riding away from the dealership, from others past experiences they stated, I also have the Werkes fender eliminator, it was a cheap insurance mod compared to the cost of a new taillight. No issues with mine what so ever and we have major road works all over our city and motorways (Earthquake related).

what is the 3m stuff actually called? its not the tank slapper stuff?
.05mm that try harder posted about seems like a good idea. i assume you can get it anywhere?

I just sprayed some 3m defender film on mine. At 875 miles not a blemish, glad I read this in time to spray it, but I overdid it ant it looks runny, but I rather have that than a cracked taillight. Boy this forum is great! Thanks All!
