Me and a couple of guys are meeting up for a riding week in Tennessee Carolinas area... so I am faced with a roughly 900 mile ride to get there... How are you guys that do distances on the 1199 carrying stuff?? I don't see that the tail/tank bag designed by Ducati would really hold that much stuff....

Hi Stw, check this out.... Huge Motorcycle Accessories & Luggage Range | Touring Luggage and Racks | Ventura they already have luggage racks and bags designed for the 1199 Panigale...now available.

Well Stw, you can put it just for really long rides...then remove it right after.
Now for your usual weekend saturday or sunday rides, dont install it...

But if you plan to tour or really do a long trip..this kind of Luggage rack system by ventura will give you lots of luggage access and freedom to move around instead of carrying a backpack for the whole 900mile ride.

They dont really look good and it destroys the beautiful design of the Panigale, but then again you will have lots of luggage space and you can always remove it after you long trip.

I use the Ventura system for longer trips with stay-over. It's true it kills the Pani-look, but for sure it offers you a comfortable ride with the possibility to bring along lots of goods.
The system is very stable at high speeds (when I go to Germany some parts of the highway don't have speed-limits :D:D) and I really don't like driving with a backpack.
Very easy to install (even possible to remove the system partially upon arrival).

+1 for the Ventura pack rack

It is quality gear made here in N.Z. I had it on my 1098s Tri and used it extensively and have just got it for my Pani Tri but not had chance for weekend getaway yet. You can easily remove it when not required as its only a 10min job to fit or leave the L brackets on and remove the rack when not in use. Re stability at high speed I never has any problems on the 1098s Tri and I used that on a regular basis at speeds far in excess of the manufacturers recommendation :)

Agree 100% Had it on my 2005 yamaha Fz1 and my 2011 BMW S1000RR. The ventura Pack rack system is a simple and durable. Their bags are excellent for long trips with stay-overs...

I hardly do long trips anymore, just the usual trackdays and sunday rides...so I dont seem to have plans YET on purchasing the Ventura Rack for the Panigale... But if ever i plan to do a really long ride with stay overs...I will get one for sure.

a backpack can be uncomfortable after riding a few hundred miles on the bike no matter the brand, i use a Kriega RS 30 which is a great bag but i still feel it after a number of hours on the bike.

As others have mentioned a Ventura rack is a really good option and it saves you having to use a backpack. It is also easily removable. I would also look at the Kriega Tail bags.

I am personally not a fan of the tank bags as it can obscure your view of the dash and forces you into a certain riding position.

I can highly recommend the Kriega R25 Rucksack (Kriega - Select your region) and also the TANK harness with one of their US series drybags which can either be used with the TANK or as a tail pack.

I have a US-5, US-10, and US-20 pack.

YOU NEED TO TOW A GOLDWING and that will carry whatever you need

Wish I hadn't seen this thread. Now I really want a Kriega backpack. Would the R15 or R20 make a better daily commuter and long Sunday ride bag than the R25? I don't think anybody near me carries Kriega so I'll have to guess and order online. I think the R25 would be overkill for the usual commuting and long day ride stuff I carry.

For a daily commute, I use the R25. I carry the following:

A pair of shoes.
My shirt in a shirt shuttle: Shirt Shuttle MK2 - buy at Firebox.com
Trousers
iPad or Laptop.

The main compartment is pretty full once that lot is in. There's still a bit of room in the front. The straps tie everything down nicely.

If I need a bit more space, I can attach the US-5 to it or even US-10.

Best soft luggage I've come across!

(I am no way affiliated, just like the stuff!)

Just curious... has anyone bought the 1199 OEM luggage?? It looks pretty good but small.. especially the tail bag..

hahahaha

Looks like you forgot half your gear though....

NO i didn't!!! I like to ride like that in the summer!!

The oem tail bag isn't that big, sits in great spot however, you'll be lucky if you can stuff your a t-shirt and a baseball hat in there. I know, i was going to buy for my summer ride last year.

I have it and it is great for around town - little known fact, it expands 2 inches higher with a zipper like some carry luggage. I have used it to carry ally my phot equipment, a jacket, etc.
