Tank Cover Experience

I am using one from flamingocorsa, bought via eBay. Quality is great, fit was easy, and i spraypainted it with colourmatched red. 1199s.wordpress.com for pics. Lowsided and the cover received a little crack on the right side, but tank was perfectly fine.
I put masking tape all over my tank and lined the inside of the cover with microfiber cloth. Easy on easy off.

Microfibres cloth on the inside is a great idea. I was trying to think of some form of felt but micro fibre is cheap and readily available

I'm looking at track fairings and had the intention of foregoing the tank cover as it would not be a dedicated track bike and I would be putting it on and removing it regularly, which had me worried about scratching the tank.

How did you adhere the microfiber to the inside of the tank cover?

Would gaffer tape be any more effective (instead of masking tape) with its fabric backing?

On a hot day, could the tape not leave a residue all over the tank that would require some solvent to remove, and then require wax again on the tank?

I am just going to use a light adhesive to hold the microfibres to the tank cover. Something like spray mount.

GT85 Is a great cleaning product for lifting solvents. As is brake cleaner.

Bike slid over 1500 feet ... it ground clear through the carbon but didn't touch the tank.

After a few months, if you remove thr tape off the tank you would want to polish and wax the tank again. There will be inevitably residue. Last time i did that after a year it took me an hour of elbow greasing.
I chose masking tape for the low adhesion. Too strong tape means more residue, and strong chemicals.
Spray glue on the inside of the cover sounds like a great idea.

I might not want to clean my tank with brake cleaner...

You mean brake fluid?

I have cleaned bikes with brake cleaner for years. It does a great job. Brake fluid on the other hand will eat the paint, then eat the tank

brake cleaner will eat through your paint just as badly as brake fluid

Stop at an auto paint supply store and pick up a small can of 3M Adhesive Remover. This easily removes any gum left over. Also works great removing any unwanted warning decals off the bike.

Am thinking US and EU brake cleaner must have very different formulations.

Lanark, if you end up buying this tank cover, (or any other) please report back. I also need one and would love some feedback. I'm back and forth between buying a used tank or getting a cover. The price on this cover seems too good to be true...even with US conversion rates.

Will do.

I ordered one up from Forza but they were so slow I coming back to me that it wasn't in stock I cancelled. Need it quicker for a track day. Unlikely to get anything in time so will go with Flamingo Corse as recommended by someone else

I was having my suspension changed to KTECH the other day, when the tech Brought out some Wurth brake cleaner to clean the bike down with.

I commented that I thought Wurth brake cleaner was great for all sorts of things including cleaning the bike to which he agreed. I then made your point about brake cleaner being dangerous to paint and he agreed that some brands were very bad.

So there we have it, best keep brake cleaner off paint work unless you knows it's ok, which Wurth is. It's excellent
