just a few randos from the new guy:

1. i've noticed most of you have no tank grips (tech specs, stomp grip, galfer tape, etc.) but for me they seem like a necessity. are none of you feeling slippery knees when you ride? do you not feel like you need more control there? am i just a [non-PC term for mentally challenged]?

2. any conclusions on whether or not SATO or T-Rex case sliders are worth it? obviously, in a high-side at 110mph the bike is toast, but most people suffer low-sides in corners, and i usually drop my bikes in the garage or in parking lots. any thoughts on which is the best product out there? (ditto for axel sliders)

3. i've never used one of these formerly motocross-only neck braces, but i like the idea and they make them for road/track use now. anyone have any experience riding with these? do they make it impossible to do shoulder checks? Leatt STX Road Neck Brace - RevZilla

thanks, love the forum (and my new bike -- base is the case!)

I have never heard of the T-Rex, but they definitely look more protective than the Sato ones. Satos look like they are more for looks than function. Personally I bought the GB racing case covers which are FIM world superbike approved and I have heard only great things from them.

1. I think tank grips are a necessity on an any sport bike, especially if you're going to the track. I have Techspec. I like the surface/texture and look. The first set started peeling off. If my second set does, then I'm going with stomp grip.

2. You'll get 2 sides to this here, believers and non-believers. I happen to be a believer and I've never witnessed a fail. I think they'll help in a low side 90/100 times. It won't help and may hurt in a tip over and nothing will help in a high-side. I have the Sato ones, but thinking of getting T-rex. I also have Rizoma front axle, Supermoto rear axle (fits my rear stand). CF case covers, but I think they're useless. Going with either GB or R&G next.

3. Haven't used one, but they idea is a good one. Not sure how well it would be on the street (head check), but useful on the track. I wonder how often you see a hyper-flexion/extension neck injury though.

I have the GB covers, they're good stuff. Just make sure you have folding pegs, I have fixed pegs on my Lightechs and the more I see and the more I think I should swap them for the folding. Generally speaking, fixed pegs drive the front of the bike and tank into the ground. But that all depends on the clipons breaking or not etc.

It's just hard, no two crashes are the same. That's why I have insurance...

To be honest in the low side I have had my non folding pegs saved damage to my rear shock .

Yeah, it all depends. I've only crashed with fixed pegs on three different bikes. The most important thing is the fixed pegs make it easier to get out from under the bike when sliding so you don't go with it. The clip ons, mid fairings, tank, and upper cowl and stay always get rashed up. Having a front crash bobbin always helps too!

I was going to get TECHSPEC but disappointed to hear that it is peeling off. I think stomp grip does not look good at all, especially black one...but it is really utility over aesthetic for sure .

i have ordered the tech specs, as there seems to be no other choice. i would rather put galfer tape on my tank than use the stomp grip, it is so fugly.

have ordered the t-rex kit -- way cheaper than sato, looks more protective, not japanese -- instead of the GB gear because i can't bring myself to completely cover the mag engine cases.

not completely sold on the neck brace from LEATT or A*, but i am really tempted for the extra safety. may have to try one on sometime soon.

thanks for your replies!
