TECHNICAL ANALYSIS: Ducati 1299 Panigale

Goes to show that a big bore kit would be a bad idea if done outside Ducati. There are so many changes Ducati had to consider by just moving up in displacement by 85cc, a simple change in piston size and bore modification to an 1199 is a recipe for disaster.

You can do other things to the 1199 engine to make it produce similar power like the new R but I would leave the piston and bore alone from a size point of view.

87cc for the people counting..... obviously not Cycle World ;)

Cycle World (yes; that is not a typo) actually put out a decent article. their European editor dissects and analyzes the 1299 Panigale engine in this article and compares it to the 1199: Ducati 1299 Panigale Superbike Engine- Technical Analysis with Photos

Interesting tech information, which they obviously cut'pasted 99%.

Pretty sure they wrote the intro paragraph, as it has 2-mistakes :D

At the EICMA show last fall, one of the technical highlights for me was how Ducati extracted an extra 100cc of displacement from the Panigale V twin. While the supercharged Kawasaki H2 and H2Rs certainly were impressive, I believe Ducati’s increase in displacement to 1299cc actually was a harder path toward more power.

:p :p
