The 1199's hurting my throttle hand!

This is really unexpected because I've hand to problems with extreme riding positions like the old school 748,996s or the 999, 1098/1198 or even the old and newer MV Agusta F4s.

The 1199's clip on handle feels like I'm actually pinching a nerve. Dumb question. Can the clip on angle be adjusted? Basically the other bikes had my right hand bending outwards towards the right but the Panigale keeps it straight but because of the lean angle bends my hand upward. It's uncomfortable enough that it's sore for hours after just a 20 minute ride to work!

Do you put weight on the bars while you're riding?

I confess. After a while. I do start off supporting my torso with my lower back but after a while I get tired. I ain't a spring chicken anymore. :)

But that said, I probably put more weight on the bars on the more extreme riding position bikes I had but the angle never really pinched a never.

Its obvious you are an experienced rider ..but this is normally a symptom of the "grip of death" style of holding the bars.... So not sure how they can be... Ergos on this bike are about as good as any Sport Bike I have ridden and having done 12-14 hour days on it I am unsure what else could cause this....

One of the reasons I had to get rid of mine. Had 2 MV F4's, a 1098 Duc (and many other sportbike) and currently have a RSV4. Little problem with hands, wrists, forearms. The Panigale was murder in those areas.
Heli bars??

Well correct riding position that dictates proper control over a sport bike is all weight supported by the core and no weight on the bars. Of course it's not that easy riding around on boring streets all the time, but the fact that you got away with it on other sport bikes must mean the Pani's clip on angles are maybe your perfect storm?

I don't know, I always have a hard time giving people advice about wrist pain when they are putting weight on the clip ons. It's kind of like complaining that your Harley won't make it through your favorite dirt bike course lol, you're just using it wrong. But I do understand that not everyone can keep up core supported riding on the road. I'd say if you're really deperate to make something work you could try experimenting with aftermarket clip ons. I'm sure someone makes them at different angles, maybe you'll find one that will improve your situation.

For some reason, my throttle hand starts to get numb after 30 minutes of non stop riding. So numb that I have to let go and give my fingers a stretch or else my hand would fall asleep. It's quite annoying on long rides. I've had a 996, 1098 and 1198 in the past, but never experienced a numb hand. Don't think I'm applying the grip of death either. Think a new grip will help?

I've got to say, I went from an rsv4 to the pani and it was definately significantly more uncomfortable. I typically don't put a lot of weight on the bars as I've gotten in the habit of using abd muscles as well as gripping the tank.

Because Allan's stating it's only one wrist it seems highly likely it's the angle of the clipon and not just the lower positioning, I'd also expect if he were gripping the bars too strongly both wrists would have the issue, but I typically ended up with numbness more so than pain.
This was a problem on 9x6 series bikes and at the time fast by ferracci made a clip on that was adjustable for angle.

Not sure if anything out there yet for the pani tho.

Yeah, this is a perfect storm type of situation. Also, it's not that my wrists are sore or tired. That comes with riding harder edged sport bikes. But, I think the angle is pinching a nerve - most like the carpel tunnel. At first I thought it may have been from typing at work (or on the forums :) ) but it's really hurting after the 20 minute ride to work.

I suppose the easy fix is to just keep supporting my weight with my core. This pictures is me on the bike with no weight. It hurt where is on the "IT" part of the "REV IT". (I'm not really riding. This is just a photo shot). With my older bikes, my wrist was bent more to the right.

I didn't start feeling the numbness in my throttle hand until I rode down to the Dragon from Woodbridge, VA 3 weeks ago. I bought a throttle buddy but that did not help either. It must be the angle of the clip-ons. This only happened on the highway. Twisty roads and normal street driving does not cause the numbness. I bough a nice set of Pro Grips which helped a little but still get it a little.

I also ride gripping the tank to keep the weight off my hands as well as in a position where my arms are not locked as well.

Wow, I thought it was just me getting a numb right hand from the bike. After about 30 min and I have to release the throttle and dangle my arm for a few secs. Sometimes it gets so numb, I am afraid I may not be able to grab the front brake effectively. I have been riding for over 15 years and this is the first bike I have had this happen on. I was thinking it could be the vibration from the engine?

Thanks for all your responses. I always thought the bar position was more like a standard bike since it's not as swept back as the older bikes. I didn't realize others where having similar issues.

I have some of the same issues....one of the things that has helped me is to concentrate on not letting my elbows lock which forces you to flair them out a little and puts a different angle on my wrists.

It makes it tolerable but is not necessarily a fix for me.

first off congrats on the panigale! Didn't know bought one.

ANyway....I too get numb hand usually if I am in the 4-5rpm range for too long and gripping the bar too tight.

Are you using the stock seat? I upgraded to the race seat and overall if feels more comforatable to me even though it sits you higher. I mean it's still a sportbike and an aggressive riding position (but way better than my F4 was IMO). But the seat seemed to change the ergos enough to make the ride better for my frame (6 foot).

Otherwise you might look into the helibars like someone had mentioned. Also on my 1198 I had a speedymoto top triple which allowed you to raise the clips ons a little. Not sure if they have something similar for the panigale?

In all honesty though more than 1-2 hours on any sportbike and I am done.....it's just not a comforatable position. I was riding my friends ninja 250 and that felt like a luxury sedan in terms of riding position compared to my duc. I guess it's me getting old...lol. Time to get a brutale.

Could be the grip you put on the throttle as it is not happening to both hands.

Change to 195hi and see if that helps. Might also get a cruise control so you can let your wrist rest at some point.

Try stomp grips and a race seat before you go around messing w/ clip-ons. You will be locked in place better and it does take significant pressure off the wrists, so much so that all your weight feels locked into the bike from digging your knees into the tank. Bonus: you won't nut the tank anymore.

Same as quite a few on this thread, I experience wrist ache and numbness in my hands while riding the 1199. I recently switched from Dainese shorties to Dainese full metal pro gauntlets and this did help a small amount.

I put the vibration down and hence numbness down to the stock grips and I put the ache in the wrists down to riding posture.

I had the same problem. It actually did cause a nerve to shift in my hand which caused my little finger to be permanently numb.

Are you, fellas sure it's the riding that causes such numbness and discomfort in you right wrist?
