Well with much waiting and delays the BMR 600 hornet cup series started in Bahrain yesterday. As in most cup series there were restrictions on the bikes.

Pre 2000 model 600 honda hornet, no engine mods. Sprocket changes allowed, an a spec tire...dot race. light suspension mods okay, the rest is stock.

Well I finished where I started which was 9th, which sucked for me as guys that I feel I should have been able to beat beat me.

Race 2 my throttle broke on the warm up lap so I was out.

What I can say is that these bike for all intents and purposes were/are pieces of ..... And probably the best investment I have made in learning to ride!

The racing is so close that you have to up your mental game if your going to get passed anyone. once a gap opens its extremely difficult to close...especially if you bigger than the other guy your chasing. With every lap the aggression builds as does your skill. I learned more about tires and suspension on this POS than I ever did from my Pani. Just the opposite, the Pani is so good it hides flaws in your skill and ability. It really demonstrated to me how good this Panigale is, and how much more I can push it now knowing what a limit of a bike feels like...lol.

Also there was a 5 second gap in lap times between me and the winner of both races,(he is also a regional champion and a CSS instructor). With the same bike he was able to go faster....This shows that you shouldn't put money into your bike till your lap times are outrageously great.

Tires...I got approval, but penalized because I didn't have spec tires...I was traveling and didn't know my buddy hadn't changed the tires. Race direction got approval from the other riders that I could race as long as the tires were considered lower spec. which they were really road biased tires. All I can say is I have been wasting money on slicks...lol. I have a long, long way to get to a tire limit..lol. from now on if I can save 50 bucks and get a Dot race, or a good canyon tire...thats the way to go!

It sounds crazy, but you should really invest in a M1100 set it up a bit and track the .... out of it. better yet, get a mid 90s CBR 600 or equivalent leave it stock and beat it to death.

From one race I got more out of this bike than all of last years track days. Your skills, and understanding of how these skills coalesce to make you better really will happen like a magic eye picture......you keep staring and all the sudden you see the pic inside the pic.

All I know is I'm preparing my bike throttle and getting ready for my next race on the 16th of next month. Its a far cry from moto gp or AMA for that matter...lol., but it was more fun than watching a race!!

Go out and do it, not for anyone but yourselves people.

Cheers!!

+1

And good for you! There is so much truth in this!

Sounds like fun, back in the later 70's the 250 GP class in so cal was like that, everyone on TZ 250's very similar power and chassis, large bike counts, made for close knock down drag out racing, some very good riders came out of that mix.

I'm thinking about getting myself an Kawasaki ER6-N for tracking days in Thailand. parts are readily available and cheap. A good example of their capability is this 2013 TT 650cc class winner. :)

Pls nxt time so we can sit on the bike and learn with you!!
Sounds like you having great fun and came back in one piece which is always good news

Well done . I would love to race a bike knowing a new set of race tyres are worth more than the entire bike .
