The future of "Carbon Fibre"

Ducati Forum

Help Support Ducati Forum:

I used to work at a company that rented the back half of their building out to another company that made carbon nanotubes for defense stuff.

All I know is that it's an incredibly expensive material right now and the volume you'd need for a set of wheels isn't likely to be affordable at any time in the near future.

Pretty sure they're also carcinogenic.

Graphene is very inexpensive / cheap and suitable for next gen 3D printers. Carbyne is a little more expensive although cheaper than carbon fiber.

Graphene is not brittle.

I thought Metal Matrix Composites (mmc) would become much more common, twenty years ago. Great option for 3d printing.
