Hello all, trying to remove OEM ...... plastic Panigale gas tank inter-connects. I’m replacing with metal parts from Gotham Cycles—Ebay.

The male side on the gas tank bottom appears very fragile and may crack if I really turn the 16mm wrench on it. The female side attached to the hard plastic lines below tank ain’t budging. I applied a hot hair dryer to each with no luck.

At some point I’m going to replace all those fuel lines with Viton but not now. I’d like to preserve the lines for now.

If the gas tank side breaks- can the threaded portion be cut and removed? Trying to avoid plastic bits falling into tank.

Any advice for removal of these bits welcome!

Greg

You need a heat gun for the line side. Hair dryer isn’t ideal. Take side should be ok. If it breaks and pieces fall into the hole, not a big deal as that port is into the pump output line not the tank so turning on the pump would flush anything out. Use a non solidifying sealer on the new tank fitting.

Thank you as usual Endo--I always look forward to your advice! :)

So--re: heat gun--do I find that at an auto parts store or is it a arts/crafts thing? :-(

And re: the tank connector--not sure I understand--the pump output line--is the pump attached to the rear of the tank--via the black plastic panel? In theory I could just remove that and retrieve any broken bits? Not sure how I would apply power and flush with the tank removed--??

Thanks again--
Greg

That port does not go to the tank it goes to the pump via an internal line in the tank (see photos) so no worries of getting anything in the tank itself.

You can power up the tank with it lifted on the bike and a bowel under that hole and the pump will push anything that may have fallen in, out. I doubt the piece will snap. Not sure if an auto parts store would have a heat gun. This is what I use. 06665736-106B-42DE-A36C-DD2063A89C45.jpegD963EF20-788B-4903-9943-8E7692250728.jpegCA828EC8-F717-4192-B59D-390E0C37B209.jpeg

Yeah like Endo says the pump has two green o-rings it fits inside the large round port on the back face. If your running a carbon tank be super careful when tightening down the metal quick disconnect onto the tank they glue a brass threaded insert there it can't take alot of force. Run a MWR fuel sock over the pump, install some viton o-rings onto the seal and call it a done day.

Good news--it's an Easter miracle! The tank-side threaded male coupler came out without damage! I had sprayed PB Blaster last night on it and let it soak, I think that helped. Anyway, metal male interconnect now in place in tank-using Hylomar on the threads.. Next is the task of cutting off the hard plastic line at the fuel distributor.
