Tire Suggestions For 1299S?

I got a kick out of the comment that the Super Corsa is overkill for the street. The whole ....... bike is overkill for the street. I bought the bike because it is a street legal race bike for all practical purposes, and I have two other bikes that are better mainstream street bikes. So for me, the overkill street bike keeps getting overkill tires :)

I switched from the sp tire to SC2 (r) and SC1 (f) - Huge improvement in edge grip. Im in LA and ride a lot of canyons with this bike and essentially zero rain time though.

What about warm up time? Cold tire grip compared to the SP?

After riding to the fun part @ 10/15 min and getting gas, they're good to go. I don't really notice that much difference in warm up time. There is some slip first thing in the morning but they come up with regular riding. I'm not exactly pushing straight out of the driveway.

Getting 1500 - 2000 miles per set

By far the best two sentences I have ever read on this forum. LOL! I truly laughed and smiled when I read that. And yes I just bought another set of SC for my bike. Love the cold grip and the amazing side grip!

I don't know any WERA racers - but thats cool that he snagged 3rd place. Maybe the guy who took first was running Pirelli?

Again - point being personal preference.

No it is experience with both tires on the ducati not personal preference.

the Q's leave little on the table for the SP to clean up.

On the street your sliding around SP's so much and then ran Q's and then noticed less grip ?

My past experience with pirelli has been non favorable on the street, but the track they have been good. these tires on my 1299s however have never given me any reason to complain. they seem to heat up really fast, do ok in the rain, and most importantly they feel like they belong on the bike . I don't even think about the tires when riding.
my past experience with stock ducati pirelli on the street has been that it was like riding a bike on ice for the first few miles - really slippy on cold tires, and impossible to ride in the rain

So my question is to you guys : is the difference the awesome electronics on the 1299s ?
or
has pirelli improved them

also Is is possible changing brands models will screw with the bikes electronics?

Im just about to order a new set of SuperCorsa SP's. I spend most of my time on the road with the occasional track day thrown in for good measure.

I have found the SuperCorsa's to be excellent in the dry and the rain (which is something I find oddly amusing given the tread pattern). Mileage isnt that good (~2000 miles) but I like and trust them and at the end of the day they are the only thing sticking me to the road through what is a somewhat small contact patch.

Well yea - experience shapes personal preference, right?

I mentioned that I only ran the Q3 (two sets actually) on a sport classic - I've not tried them on the 1199. I thought they were good tires but lacked edge grip and feedback - not that big of a deal on a sport classic. Running the Rosso Corsa tire now on the sc which is ok. I expect more miles out of these. I just finished a 999r wheel conversion though so I think back to SC.

On the 1199, I ran the stock SP tires and thought they were ok. I switched to the SC series and noticed improvement in edge grip and feedback - the bike felt much more planted when leaned over and I felt more confident where as the SP tire felt like it was on the limit.

I remember the the profile of the Q being more flat, too - less aggressive than the Pirelli tire. But that was a 180 so maybe its different with the 200?

Hahaha....when people ask why I need a 205 HP superbike for just riding around. I always say "because it's totally impractical and awesome"

No one has ever countered that argument.

I run the Q3's, on the street on my Aprilia Tuono V4 and love them.

This past weekend I did the CMRA race school to get my road race competition license. I did this on my 1299 with the OEM SP's, I've only got about 400 miles on the bike and tires.

This is the first time I've been on the track with street OEM rubber. I normally run GP211/12's or SC1/2's and those are more than adequate for my abilities.

During our practice sessions and the class required mock race, I never spun the rear up or saw/felt the traction control come in. I did have a slight puckka moment when I had a front end slide going through a fast, 100mph, slightly down hill left hander. This was after 7 or 8 fairly hard laps.

Normally I tend to be a bit heavy and reliant on the front end, and forgot that I had the race ABS on the bike, but I never felt I could push the front quite so deep as with the DOT race compound tires.

I was the first to cross the finish line, in our mock race, and managed to lap two of the other class students in our four lap event, so i was running pretty good pace, but I was slightly tentative through most of the corners.

These SP's will come off the 1299 and go onto my Tuono and finish their time on the street.

I'm getting 3500 miles per rear tire. I'm pretty gentle on my tires. It doesn't necessarily feel like it, but it may simply be the difference between rolling on the throttle, and stabbing it open.

The Supercorsa is an excellent match for the bike. I feel zero need to try anything else. Not a Pirelli fanboy; I've spent years on Metzelers, Bridgestones, and most recently Michelins. I feel the most confident on Pirellis though.
