So I'm looking for next season tires that will last longer than the stock 1299s supercorsa V2's because my commute to work is mainly straight highway riding.

The options are, Dunlop Q3's and Metzeler M7RR's.

What do you guys prefer or suggest with a hard center rubber while still being an alright tire on twisties and rain.

Q3's

Cheaper, almost just as good in the corners and MUCH MUCH better in the wet. The last set I had on my s1000rr lasted me 7k miles with about 4 track days and some canyon/commute .. not hard track days but still.

Con's would be they don't make a 200 section tire but the 190 is measured at 195-ish I believe and they are slightly heavier just my 2 cents

i never used the metzeler but mike b has. from what he has said they arent too good for the track but make a spectacular street tire especially in the rain.

i use q3 great track day tire for a novice intermediate rider also very good in the rain. last very long and you can get 2 sets for the price of OEM

the dunlop 190 are wider than the pirelli 200 but they are not as tall. not a problem though just adjust traction control if you want. many on here use them.

If your open to the idea of running a 190/55 I would would consider this... Bridgestone
S20 Evo front, T30 rear.

Running this on my 675R on the street and there is more than enough traction for spirited riding while getting some good mileage.

here is the review of the metzler

guys please drop the 190 200 debate. you do know that there is a 10mm play with each number

a 200 can be labled 200 even if its a 191 and a 191 can be labeled 200. its a guide not an absolute.

the q3 190 is .5mm wider than the pirelli 200. bridgestone 190 are wider than both the pirelli and the q3 i believe its 196 mm wide.

I run the Q3s; they are cheap, sticky and good for 2,000 miles of fast, twisty back roads. But if you are doing lots of HWY, the. The metzlers will last longer.

Metzler is a much better street tire than the Dunlop. But if you ride on the track with same tires then Dunlop for sure.

Everything I've heard about the M7RR's is positive with the exception of their very short life.

It seems it's a struggle for an aggressive rider to get more than 1000 miles out of a rear.

I use Q3's and am very happy with them. I get about 1800 miles out of a rear.

I am liking my Bridgestone RS10.They wear fast, are very light and soft.

Loved the Dunlop Q3's especially the price, but the DTC started going nuts after they wore in. Great grip, very firm carcass.

I still think the Pirelli tires are darn good, but the price is out of control.

Diablo Rosso II. Dual compound rear and sticky edges for canyons.

Battlax RS10 can only be recommended if you have very little hwy riding as they are extremely soft compound. Great sticky tires but not made to last.

Supercorsas wear well but the price is set pretty high.

Diablo Rosso Corsas.. Done. I get around 3,000 miles out of a rear on my commute and it has the same edge compound that the SP has.

So I have kind of a stupid question, I see a lot of guys only getting 2k-3k miles out of the rear tire on these bikes... I don't think I've ever gotten less then 5k out of a set, I change the tires out every season just because I like fresh one for the track and they still have life in them.. this last season I moved up to expert and while I wasn't the fastest guy on the track, I'm not the slowest either 3.7k miles on the 1299 and my tires are still good, used but good.

So my stupid question is.. Am I just not pushing the bike as hard as I could? The wear on my tires are much more then any other season after 4 track days at level 3 or A Group but still good. I'm just trying to figure out why I don't go through tires as fast. I mean, I'm slow but 1:50-2 minute laps at the Ridge isn't THAT slow or is going through tires one of those "I'm cool" things?

Because I commute every day, I wear through the center of the tyre way sooner than I do the edges.. I am down to the cords at 3,000 miles; the same was true on my BMW S1000RR. I have tried other tyres, but get WAAAAAY less out of them. I got 800 miles out of the stock 1299 tyre..!!:eek:

I think a lot has to do with throttle control Amateurs like me are heavy handed and choppy on the throttle..which leads to tyre wear.. I am guessing you are smoother and therefore kinder to your tyres....:p

Not smooth, scared to make sudden moves

Tire pressures are the single greatest factor in determining how many miles you get from a set. There are other variables (how aggressive you are, suspension setup, etc.) but tire pressure is going to determine overall wear.

Currently I get ~3800 to a rear Q3 and ~5k to a front by running 32f/34r. I've always thought discussions of tire mileage variations are useless without stating normal tire pressures you run.
