Ok folks, I went ahead and brought back an F4RR ABS, no flaming please as my Panigale S ABS is still the daily driver here. All I can say is the Ducati right now is more confidence inspiring as a daily driver in terms of initial assembly quality. The MV is more built up in terms of intricate design but it is an older generation and so favor goes to the Duc in terms of initial drive-off reliability and user friendliness, from its easy TFT display to the ergonomics. It does however out sounds the MV by a large margin despite the upgraded Arrow exhaust my MV has (The Duc appears to be louder than anything out there, it screams, haha!).

Nice initial comparison. I owned a 2006 F4 1000R which I loved. It's not too dissimilar to the newer models and I find your initial thoughts the same as mine. However, the sound of my F4 with the race Arrow exhaust was positively exotic.

I've been thinking about swapping my gsxr750 for the F3 800. I really like the styling, but at the moment I don't live near an MV dealer so that's a deal breaker.

Very nice. The F4R is a beautiful bike. I certainly wouldn't mind having one of each. A short video comparison of the two with idle revving and flyby sounds clips would be very much appreciated.

I reckoned the F3 800 is the best looking bike when I was on Ecima. when I bought the pani last year they were give great deals on the F4r and rr in the UK, was tempted but wanted ABS, and they didn't have that on the stock machines there, that F4 Jeffd is so nice, no matter the age.

Finally took out the F4RR for a 10 mile shakedown run after installing the radiator guards and topped off the coolant (yeah, coolant was low slightly from new). The bike sounds great in its own way, certainly exotic unlike other 4 cylinders. I have the Arrow slip ons option. Controls-wise, the Panigale has it trumped on the exotic feel. The Panigale drives like an animal compared to the F4RR, and sounds like one too. I believe one has to understand that the 1199 is the latest generation track bike. As an analogy, the 1199 feels like a Porsche GT3 RS compared with a BMW M5 when comparing with the MV. The MV is softer feeling as if the initial suspension settings are setup that way- both have the high end Ohlins all around), less direct throttle feel and the controls including the shifter and rear brake are long throw than the Panigale, which is direct and immediate. Turn in is much quicker on the Panigale, almost to the point of squirrely when compared with MV, which makes the MV confidence inspiring even for new riders. This is just initial impressions as I am taking it easy by the book on the MV's running in. Who knows what unleashes when the MV is driven sans running in requirements.

On low speed maneuverability, the MV is much easier to tool around parking lots, bar none, as the clutch and rear brake are butter soft in response compared to the Panigale. The Panigale is more of a handful at crawling speeds relative to the MV.
