Track Day. Headlight question

This shall be one of those in depth conversations Blade Runner!
(BTW- One of my favorite movies of all time too!) Unfortunately, without the tone and inflection of this - its difficult to "Feel" the true weight of this quote by Rutger Hauer!

"I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time... like tears in rain... Time to die."

Oh, back to your question. Im positive one of the other 1299 Track Day riders will have the true answer to this one buddy - I've never ran one of these newer Ducati's on the track so I honestly think it will require a bit more than just pulling a fuse mate.
Anxious to hear the response from one of the members on this myself - I'll send this link to a couple of them for ya right now to get on it man. Sorry I didnt have much to contribute other than the Blade Runner quote man! ;)

I pull the 10A fuse to disable the lights but I get a CEL and other warnings. I wish there was a track mode that disables it.

This might be really silly, but... Why do you want to turn off headlights? Are they forbidden and if so, why?

We're talking about riding on the track. Headlights are distracting. Some organizations require disabling headlights + tape and disable tail lights as well. Just check with your local track organization on the rules.

Yes of course. I've driven in quite many organizations/tracks/countries here in Europe and never faced any headlight ban. Glass (not plastic) requires taping yes, but light no. I've also ridden 20 years in tracks, raced, won championships etc and just can not see how light itself could be distracting.

But safe is safe for sure. Funny rule I think.

TrakTape is also pretty fantastic - makes the whole process much easier and looks clean.

Im sitting here speechless.

Are you guys pulling his leg or what with these? ;)

Cmon, you guys DO seriously know that headlight needs to be disconnected, or the power to it absolutely broken for that temporary period he's pushing that beast to its limits the best he can - which we ALL know THAT is exactly what its built for (RIGHT?)

OP / BR - Man I am sorry I don't have this SPECIFIC answer to your very factual and honest question brotha. I honestly always had dedicated track / race bikes only and never was faced with the matter. However, that rule / request is always covered in Track Day Organizations, along with tail lights and blinkers as well my man. Many often offer the best method of doing so and suggest what method works best etc. I would gladly go thru some of my old rulebooks from CCS to see if I can find anything more detailed, but right now doing it from this pos iPhone would prove more difficult than I can truly pull off. Allow me to return to the MBP and see what I can dig up for you BR. Meanwhile, take a look in the Org hosting your particular day and perhaps do a Search Engine review on the matter- heck maybe even call your Dealer's Service Dept (If you happen to have a decent enough relationship or they are maybe even "Track Bike Savvy" at all. I know you wish to do this properly and did in fact ask a very bonafide question on this topic. We'll get ya squared away bro! ====OOHRAH ? =====

do not pull the 10amp relay if you do not unplug the headlight as well and vice versa.. if your not gonna remove the headlight assy fully. hit me up if you need any help.. I've been toying with this recently and noticed CEL/BBS warning lights on the track and was told by someone who basically is Ducati that if you don't undo both it can cause issues with the BBS/ECU and can cause the bike to shut down until reset by a dealer.. It gets mixed signals like we men do when a woman looks at us.. Feel free to message me if you need any advice or help..

Ok, I'll leave the fuse alone from now on. It makes sense, after I pull it off, I get all sorts of weird warnings. Funny how unplugging the tail gives me a "BRAKE LIGHT" warning.

What are the proper steps to turn off the light?

Why would it cause issues with the electronics, it's just a fuse, disconnecting the circuit is exactly what it is designed for?

Hi Gunny,

I have a great relationship with my dealer. I spoke to the service dept mgr and he said do not pull the fuse it will cause all sort of issues. The same for disconnecting the headlight. So I ordered some Trak Tape. Looks good and will cover the lights well.

I like you really never faced this problem till now. When I raced it was with a dedicated track bike. I didn't need to worry about warning lights if I took the tail light and headlight off. Love 80's and 90's tech. LOL!!!

Funny how much bikes have changed since I was last on the track 18 years ago. Wow I cant believe its been that long.

Pull the fuse in the left side fusebox and pull the rear brake light connector on the ride side. No tape needed.

you still need to tape up the glass, i have never been to a track day where it was not a tech requirement.

I know this will not answer you question, but the Ducati OEM track kit comes with electrical block off's for the headlight, taillight and side stand switch.
