Sorry for the questions but just wondering if anyone's gotten any trade in value on their 2012 S? I figure the ones selling privately may have talked to a dealer first. And, I'll take base model trade in if you have them.

My guess for the 2012 S would be around $12-$14 and $9-10k for the base. Did I win? :)

my dealer offered me $14k trade in on my base. Ultimately I didn't trade in and just sold ebay.

You think 9k trade in for a base is what one would expect? If a dealer offered me that I would never step foot again in there.

I shoulda also specified it had abs as well.

On the used market the abs seems to add a bit to the price.

I've seen some dealers advertise new base without abs for high $15s.

My S is non abs and was offered 17k. Being that the bike is so knew prices will vary wildly.

You know, I've call around for a base and they seem to hold at $17k off w/o tax! I think it's cause they know the promo ends in two weeks and base models aren't as pentiful. That price I'll take may local dealers S for $20k.

Sounds like your buying one soon. Not waiting for the '13's ?

I'm pretty good at resale values, but trades are all over the place because motorcycle dealers don't like to tie up too much of their credit limit on used bikes.

2011's were selling as leftovers for $2000 discount. As there is no shortage of bikes, that tells me that nobody is going to want to pay more than about $2000 under what a new leftover was going for. That puts SALE price (not resale) at about $4000 under list, or $20,000 or so for a S w/abs. Now, a dealer will not want to make $2000 or so, but they don't like risk. To me, that puts trade in value of a super clean bike at around $17,000.

Use the same math for other levels. That says a base bike that listed for $17,999 (18,000) is worth. Because the dollars are less to begin with I'd put that at $6000 under list, or $12,000.

BTW, I get that leftover '12's may be gone - or mostly gone. But still, if a new one was being discounted for $2,000 that still says that a used one would have less value, but maybe it splits the difference at $3,000 under list for sell price on a used one - low miles, good condition.

Don't forget, how much profit they are making on whatever you are trading for will effect what they give on a trade.

If you take $10,000 on a trade you'd have to be a fool. Why would you ever trade in ANY DUcati? You can sell ANY Ducati for 30% more on ebay in 48 hours.... If you get offered $10,000 and think you'll take it PM me- I promise I'll give you more....

Really, DO IT EBAY! Mileage not even being a factor I couldn't see you getting less than $14,000 for it on ebay. Think of it this way... a New R1 for $14,5 or a slightly used Panigale for $14,000? Duc all day.

Please don't trade in your bikes.
Dealers are pure scum with trade values. They make $5K on the initial sale and then another $4-6K on used. Example- I paid $20,000 for my MTSSin AUgust. 2000 miles by December it was time to pick up my Pani. THey offered me $12K LOL. I laughed at them. SOld it on ebay for $17K to a guy a state over in 36 hours. Saw the dealer then had a similar used one on their lot asking $18,400!!!!! THey would've netted over $6,000! THats disgusting.

Just my $.02

^in fact, you can probably get a prince from overseas to send you a bank cheque for $5k over your asking price for your troubles for the overseas shipping.

One thing I would not go by is KBB or NADA. Last August I put my Goldwing up for sale. NADA said it was worth $23,500 - it was 3.5 years old. You could buy a new one just like mine for that price. The bike sat for six months before I worked a deal with my dealer to trade for the Panigale. They wound up getting in the $16's for it.

My friend has a 2010 Concours on consignment at a Kawasaki dealer - they went by NADA when they put it on their lot. It has been sitting there unsold since November.

Those guides aren't worth a .... for motorcycles

You know, I could have sworn I looked up 1199 pricing in KBB and found nothing for the 2012s. But it's there. Maybe because I was using a smart phone. Or maybe I'm going senile.

Why all the hate on dealers? I'm not one nor have I ever worked for one but understand them as small business owners. With a Pani, you really need someone to take it to for warranty work and for Ducatis it has to be trained, certified techs at an official dealer. The guys are just trying to earn a decent living like everyone else.

Plus, I don't think their margins are anywhere near what you think they are on new bikes. Certainly not $5,000 on a Multistrada. And even if it was, so what? They have to keep the lights on, pay the rent, pay the salesman a commission, etc. All that stuff adds up every month.

In terms of high used-bike prices at a dealership, you better be happy they charge as much. You never would have gotten $17K for yours on eBay if the dealership and others like them wouldn't have had used ones listed for $18,400 ;)
