O.k. So after my history with trusty japanese bikes and one british one i heard loads of stories about ducati "character traits" which you would either live with or not. I have also owned some italian cars and i must say that does not help!
Anycase, i have now had my 1299 for almost a month, but i was on holiday away so we have only spent like 4 days together and we have done 600km thus far. I have taken fairings off to check her out and i must say i am impressed by the quality and design refinement, truly a beautifully put togeher machine.

After getting back from holiday i just went over to her to say hallo and apologise for the lack of attention. I switched the ignition on to see if she had battery power and she got so excited she started immediately. Truly weird, i noticed the cut of switch was in the open position but i did not press the starter button. I switched off and tried to emulate the same situation, did not start by herself.
Next morning though, switched the ignition on, flipped the cut off open and she started immediately without me pressing the button.

I checked carefully and depressed it a couple of times, it seems the starter button would get stuck in the hole a bit, the spring seems to be quite soft end the platic feels like it is rubbing on the button a bit. I have sprayed some silicone spray around and pressed the button a months worth, seems less glitchy now.

So is this a "heads up" kinda post or are you looking for a possible solution? Your post ends in an unclear way.

That said, that does seem odd. I've never encountered that issue or heard of it either. These 1299's seem to be having different electrical issues than the 1199 had based on forum feedback on users bikes.

i bet on a stuck switch. maybe too much electrical grease? solidified in a cold garage?

I would like to know if someone else has experienced the same issue. But i dont think it is electrical, it feels like the physical button and surrounding plastic is not a good fit. Maybe as PHL said, temperature might play a role, it was probably 38 degrees C in the garage ( summer here in the south. )

Why do guys always refer to their bikes as "she," or "her" ?
Why not "he" or "him"

There is nothing wrong with thinking of your bike as a male….
For example, I refer to my bike as Big Richard and we have a great mutual understanding…
….But, when I ride hard, I refer to him as Big ....

Gender

For me it is just what was taught to us in school, some book in school actually said we had to refer to all inanimate objects as 'she'. I sort of decide based on the name i come up with. I remeber riding my tl1000s through the great karoo and i thought she was the queen of the desert, also around the time of the movie, so she became Purrcilla.... My jeep on the other hand turned out to be male, Andy.... The Ducati started with maths, of you add up 1299 you get black jack, so she became Jacky.;)

No Worries, I will tell them about it next week when she goes in for 1000km service.

Read complaints about the engine stalling in traffic. Unintentional starts make up for that. Equilibrium must be.

Re your first problem. I would just pull the switch gear apart and clean it or get a new one under warranty.

Re your second problem. Riding Andy. Mount Priscilla all you want but stop riding Andy or you will end up like ARSEHAMMER.

Apologies to my good friend, Mr PA.

If you're chatting in a bar and someone overhears the conversation along the lines of "So I was hanging on the back of him, riding him like f*ck I was" "Gave it a big fistful"............. well you get the rest

Lol, the bar conversation analogy works well, a good bar chat we used to have was comparing girl friends to bikes and which is better. A couple of things make bikes better off course, like, a bike does not mind if you ride her just after riding another, same goes for taking your buddie' s bike for a quick ride. Bikes also don't mind if you ride them after a couple of pints... You get the drift...

Bikes are He's .. anyone who can't admit it.. they are merely the "santorum crowd".. (rhymes with phomo-phobe)

LOL

No offense intended

I had a 1299S Demo out in September, quick shifter was not working properly.

Stopped for petrol, turned on key and bike started, luckily it was not in gear.

Bike started to stall, nightmare 5 miles through town, back to dealer and they found starter was jammed on.
