Got a package in the mail today from Italy. Opened it up and:

Paul Ventura, a friend of mine at Ducati HQ and all around awesome guy, had Gianni Fabbro, the man responsible for designing the Panigale, sign two of these. One sits on his desk in Bologna. The other is now mine. So friggin' cool. I'm starting to build up a nice collection of Panigale Rarities....

Still have that mini helmet with my name on it. Need to find my original Panigale R press kit and the knee puck Nicky Hayden wore/signed during the launch at COTA to keep the collection whole!

WOW!!! Just WOW!!

I am glad to see you being rewarded with some goodies from Ducati; you have been a one Man rolling advertisement for the brand, with all your travels and travails..

Cheers.

Very cool Dennis.. Quick question what was it like sitting next to Ben Spies?

Ben was super cool and laid back. Appreciative, a little embarrassed by attention. Not a hint of arrogance, no trace of egoism. Mr. Hayden, on the other hand....wow, I've never met someone filled with so much hatred and contempt.

That is a cool collector piece! You have definitely earned it as you have logged a metric .... ton of miles and proved it can be done on a Panigale.

Mr Hayden angry? Interesting, as he seems to hide it well on camera.

Nicky, Roger or Earl?

That's pretty neat. Thanks for sharing that.

Really miss watching elbowz on the race scene. His career ended way too soon.

b9000b: Nicky.

Soon as the cameras are on he was likable, charming and affable--and CONVINCING. Not even a hint of insincerity. Cameras off and he was the exorcist.

Here's an example: I walked out of the paddock at COTA. Nicky is standing there with his duffel bag. The door closes and locks behind me. It's just us in the infield parking lot, no one else around. I give him a nod. He pauses, stares back at me with a '.... you' glare. Without saying anything, he picks up his bag, walks over to this empty track cafe, goes inside and just stares back out through the glass door at me with seething hatred. We were out there for a few minutes. Him just staring at me in the parking lot. It was amusing and absurd. Perhaps he'd have been a little more polite if the PR guy had told him in advance that we were all riding back to the hotel in the same car.

Didn't ruin my day, but I sure ruined his. No clue why. We were introduced, shook hands, had a brief conversation, that was it. Maybe that was the day Domenicali told him it was his last season with Ducati? Dunno. Not my circus, not my monkey.

Wow, you sure read a lot into facial expressions. I met Nicky back at the Indy mile at the first go held there. He was hobbling around on crutches with a busted leg. Was polite and personable. Your impressions don't really jibe with the universally liked in the paddock reports. Can't say my interaction with him was any different than with Rossi outside of the track. Only guy I could say was reply affable was Simoncelli. He seemed to really like Hooters.

Wow, that doesn't seem anything like the impression that everyone seems to have of nicky.

Perhaps just end of a long day at work. Remember, PR events is work for him. I recall seeing Stoner at Laguna in the poddock, he just couldn't run faster enough back to his trailer. Colin Edwards on the other hand, the guy took his time, was signing 'til his hands got tired, very cool. Cal's cool too, he needs to stop crashing.

Dennis, If I were Ducati, I offer you a free bike if you put enough miles on your Pani?

Yep, does not compute with the general image of him. A few of the journalists had some choice things to say about him as well. He was definitely in a bad mood. I didn't take it personally.

jyli19: US trip was 30k miles, Euro trip was 15k. Ducati has been great to me. And as long as they keep building passionate and bloodthirsty bikes, I'm happy to keep buying them.

That is freaking cool! Keep racking up the miles and stay safe out there, Dennis.

Clint.
