I had heard rumours the V4R would be restricted in the US. A video circulating Facebook shows a V4R on the dyno only making 200 rwbhp. Whats clear in the video is the full Akra is already installed on the bike. Thats a far cry from the 230 crank bhp Ducati have been pushing.

It's restricted to be street legal, nothing a little flash & tune can't help [emoji6]

In Belgium it comes restricted to 100hp
And it is electronically limited to that as well by delivery. But the dealer gives in a code and you have full power.
This is more for taxes (full power is 2400 euro tax, 100hp is 123 euro :D )
On paper, the bike remains 100hp
This is the tax for putting the bike on the streets
You tell your insurance it is full power and you never have problems

The V4R in the link was brand new. 31 miles on the odo. I'd guess it will gain 5-10 hp after it's had some miles on it.

I love the ONLY making 200 RWHP!!! From The crank to the rear wheel there is always a 10-15% loss of power, This bike is right where it should be for having only 31 miles on it...

Oy vey, come on folks...

Bike in the video dyno'ed 200 WHEEL hp. Ducati claims 230 CRANK hp with the Akrapovic exhaust system. Video verifies Ducati's numbers are pretty spot on after accounting for a 10-15% drivetrain loss.

Once the motor breaks in a bit, likely to see another couple ponies

Looks about right. As mentioned earlier, drivetrain partisitic loss is usually around 15%.

The 1299 crank horse power was 205 and mine put down 177 completely stock.

Are you required to buy a full akra to get the flash? I would want the flash but planned to buy slipons for using the stock exhaust on restricted noise tracks.

You shouldn't be allowed on the internet until you learn the difference to expect between manufacturers quoted crank HP numbers and dyno rwhp numbers.

I purposely quoted rwbhp and bhp acknowledging the difference. A quoted figure of 234 bhp at the crank should easily give you in the region of 215 - 220 rwbhp.

...and also be aware of how new bikes will make more power once broken in, how different dynos on different days in different conditions can give different results. Oh my God this conversation has been had so many times we should all know it by heart.

All is well, the world is not ending, initiate unbunching of panties.

Because 200rwbhp put down through a contact patch smaller than the size of a credit card isn't enough ?

Agree with all the above comments re drive train loss, different dynos, different days.. all been said before and no doubt will be continue to be said.

Maybe I'm just expecting too much? But I was hoping that it would equate to around 210 real world horsepower? And thats being generous allowing for a 24 bhp loss in transmission!

I'm not saying I personally need more etc, I understand there's all the other factors involved. But back to the original question I was wondering if there's more to the story and if it's been purposely choked back?

DNA source just confirmed the 234hp figure for the R is flywheel, with race exhaust and upmap so take that for whatever it's worth ....who knows.

Ok but what is restricted? Timing, fuel, Rpm's or speed or throttle bodies not opening all the way at WOT? that's the important things to know.

you do know that the crank was devalued on ducati due to not doing the proper numbers... the new HP on the 1299 and 1299s (not new but new to most who thought they got it at 205) is 197hp at the crank

Scotman623 hit it pretty well. Pretty funny that 95% of the people on this board myself included have no idea what to do 180-200hp and scare themselves when that .... sneaks up on them. Unless you are racing the bike and you're decent at doing so then anything over 180hp on a bike like that is more than enough for the skill sets that most mortals will ever attain. I have been riding with a few guys who have the V4 here in SoCal and while they don't represent everyone, the represent the majority. They show up on with all their sponsor laden matching gear and proceed to ride like a recently licensed individual on a Rebel 500. Unless you're competing, dyno and spec # are for parking lot and chat board bragging rights. My neighbor has some supercharged mustang thingy. 800hp he claims. It's never been over 70mph. It's kinda like the scale folks. Some people are obsessed with the data it puts out but what does it really tell you?, your relevance to gravitational forced on this particular planet. Unfortunately no matter what the data shows, it doesn't change the fact that you may still look like you need a fitness plan. Now let's get back to posting how many micrograms we can save by drilling out a washer and posting the side by side scale pics.
