Hi all - not "new" to this forum, but my first real post here. Took delivery of my V4R last week to replace my Speciale. Will try to use this thread to track my long term impressions, modifications, comparisons, planning, etc.
So far, the R has won my heart over the Speciale. The Speciale is a fantastic bike, but the R is a different breed. In car analogies - Speciale is a McLaren and V4R is a Porsche cup car. It really lives between 7-16k RPM, and is the type of bike that just makes you want to suit up for the track. That being said, the Speciale is a much better street bike. So, if you plan on track, R is the ticket. If not, Speciale would be my choice.
Coming from an array of older Duc's (Desmo, 996R, 999R Xerox...etc..), the V4R will see track duty as the modern (hopefully) reliable bike.
I thought I would be OK riding it stock for a while, but you can really feel and see on the dyno how they choke the R in stock form. So...first plans include:
-Full Akro system
-Rearsets (Looking at the DP adjustable set, Spider or CNC)
-Levers (DP or CNC)
-DP gas cap
-Reflector removal, ha!
-Extra set of wheels for track, with slicks
Please feel free to chime in with recommendations.
Already done:
-Futurismoto Tail Tidy and Turn Sigs. Great product
The R lacks the copious amounts of carbon that come on the Speciale, but I don't think I'll be adding those on. At least not for a while. Carbon doesn't make me faster.
