A good friend of mine with a 1299s always play around on the freeway from time to time.

While my bike on break in period we did few runs

2022 v4 base stock ( stock mirros removed to bar ends )
Sport mode , dwc 4 , dtc 3 , 94 cdn Chevron. 190lbs rider

Vs

2016 1299s stock mirros
Akra slip ones , brenn tune, k&n filters
92 us fuel.

100 km rolls second gear the v4 would start to edge it a bit and keep a steady pace 2- 3 bikes ahead, multiple runs the results were the same.

2 weeks later after break in period and first service done at the dealer we did same same runs but results were different.

Only thing changed this time is the 1299s removed stock mirrors and was on 92 octane us and splash of e85.

Results

Second gear 100km
Both bikes were neck to neck until third gear than the 1299s would walk me really hard and kept walking away at a pretty fast pace. Multiple races same results kept getting walked

So I'm just curious what happened here did my bike get slower after the first service and break in period or the removal of the mirror and e85 mix made a big difference for the 1299s?

Was it re-tuned with the e85 mix? I'm not sure that would be of any benefit without a new tune but i could be wrong.

If you aren't tuned for it, what possible difference would E85 make? E85 in a boosted engine, but in a NA?

Probably more meaningful results if you ran then switched riders and ran again.

If you want to know how much better a platform the V4 is compared to the 99 Take a look at the lap times for WSBK at the same tracks between 2018 and 2022. That will give you a good indication of the advancement of the brand. Less controlled environments will yield nothing tangible due to the overwhelming variables.

Ran it back to back different settings as well and same results. Does the dealer do any software changes during the first service after the break-in ?

It was just odd. Ran both same place back to back the before and after was not even the same or even close.

Is there any difference in power from sport mode to race mode ? I've never tried race mode yet.

They do software updates but I don’t think that would matter all too much.

The different throttle modes will change how direct the throttle feels. One of them removes all of the torque limits in every gear but first. I’d try that if you are doing roll on starts. The torque limiting thing is meant more for the track and driving out of corners.

For the street, I’d leave it in sport or street and just change the engine/throttle modes.

The 1299 is a beast and most bikes would be hard pressed to beat this thing from a rolling run. It's obviously doesn't have the wheelbase designed for sub-9 1/4 mile times, but again it's a friggen beast of an engine in a pretty light platform like the V4.

I looked around on the web and found it's still got strong numbers compared to some newer releases. I miss my modded 1199S but the thing needed so much energy to ride fast, where the V4 doesn't.

Not sure that adds to the discussion or not.

Go to settings menu and adjust engine setting for whichever mode you are running to full power. Should make a difference.

I have a 1299 and a SFV4, both Bren Tuned. The 1299 is a phenomenal engine, great on track and street with its ground thumping roll on torque. With a very experienced rider that can keep the V4 spooled all around the track, the V4 will throw down faster lap times.

It just is what it is, the 1299 is a much better street engine and better for that pickup drag race here and there. Having 5.0 V8 sized pistons makes a difference!

For a roll on to be fair, the V4 would need to start at a speed where the tach is already up over 9k. Starting a roll anywhere below that is handing the 1299 a win.
