Valentino Rossi has suffered a suspected broken right tibia and fibula after an endurance training crash at his own ranch in Tavuilla.

According to Italian website Gazetta dello Sport the Italian was riding an endurance bike with the VR46 Riders Academy boys when he suffered a hard fall. It was known almost instantly that the injury was a bad one and the Italian was taken immediately to the Urbino hospital for further checks and is now scheduled to undergo surgery later on this evening.

The right leg is the same one that Rossi broke back during the 2010 season when he was forced to miss four races after breaking his leg during a practice crash at his home Grand Prix of Mugello.

This injury marks the second time shortly before a home race that Rossi has suffered an injury after injuring his sternum in a MX crash before the Italian Grand Prix in Mugello earlier in 2017.

Rossi would definitely miss next weekends Misano Grand Prix should the bones be broken and almost certainly still be sidelined for the Aragon Grand Prix on the 24th of September, with the Japanese Grand Prix at Motegi a feasible target to return for.

The news comes as a huge blow to Rossi who is still hunting for the illusive tenth World Championship. After last weekends British Grand Prix, the Italian closed the gap to the top of the World Championship to just 26 points.

Thats a shame as his hopes at a shot of a tenth title are all but sunk now, which means it's a three way hunt between Marquez, Vinales and Dovi. If I was a betting man I'd say Marquez but I'm not so hopefully Dovi can do the business. Gotta feel for VR though as this accident is just before another iconic Italian round. Hopefully it wont dilute the championship too much.

The Tib-Fib combo; that sucks, been there. Also on a dirt bike, from my MX days. Landed on some nitwit trying to restart his bike in mid-track on the back side of a blind double. Not a scratch on him, of course. Ahh, memories...

Breaking news - Misano It.
Dorna Sports S.L. has announced that due to the unfortunate injury to 7 time champion Valentino Rossi that the MotoGP round at Misano scheduled for 10 September will be cancelled. Dorna has cited that track conditions will deteriorate due to the volume of Uccio tears that are expected to accumulate between now and the Misano race.

I think because he is uncompetitive and washed up that he fabricated this whole accident because he could not handle losing to Dovi and seeing him be the Italian Ducati rider to bring the championship to home them.

Surely in his contract he shouldn't be racing elsewhere because of this scenario?

You'd have thought so Mutt woudn't you. Many professional sportsmen and women are banned from partaking in other activities that may lead to injury during their season. Not sure why this is not restricted to the off-season.

Actually if you read the book "wide open" by Jeremy McGrath he speaks about this at some length with Honda. Yamaha had always been looser with this type of rule. I also suspect with Rossi running a school Yamaha likes the brand feeder from such a setup.

Whose going to replace him? Lowes and/or VDM from WSBK in to the factory team as a thank you for Suzuka. Or move a tech 3 guy up and one of those two in at tech 3 instead. Their test rider? Beaubier? Ellison?

Personally I'd like to see rossis greatest fan and star of this forum mark have a go just so he can prove how slow rossi is.

The problem is that all these guys on the Moto GP grid, even last place, are riding at such a high level they have to be on a bike constantly to maintain their edge.
They can't let their reflexive response lag, they are way beyond exercise and diet, with a couple of creative visualization sessions thrown in for good measure.
Thats what makes Rossi such a freak of nature, most humans can maintain that level of intensity for 10 years or so, before they're done. Then throw in travel, media and sponsor obligations on top of that!
