Ducati-Verkauf: Piëchs Marken-Imperium löst sich auf - Wirtschaft - Süddeutsche.de

google translate:

Volkswagen wants to sell the motorcycle manufacturer Ducati. As a result, the Group is heading for a change of course after the departure of Patriarch Ferdinand Piëch. At Piëch, the Group's portfolio had grown to twelve brands. Now other well-known brands could be sold as well. By Thomas Fromm, Max Hägler There are freaks who buy themselves on their old days still have a motorcycle. The one looks after years again the hippie epic "Easy Rider" and pulls the next day off and worries a Harley Davidson. Others dream of Italy and buy themselves: a fire-breathing Ducati. Ferdinand Piëch, billionaire and for many years the great owner and patriarch of the VW Group, was never the Harley-type, and he was always a lover of Italian design. Because he was Piëch, he did not buy a Ducati in 2012. He bought: Ducati. At the time, the Volkswagen Group paid 860 million euros for the very special Capriccio of the Old. Whether the middle Italian motorcycle manufacturer Ducati really fit the rest of the group, whether the beautiful two-wheelers now also needed - it was basically no matter as long as the then supervisory board wanted. VW, this 12-brand giant empire with Audi, Porsche, Skoda and Scania, now also built Italian motorcycles. Now VW obviously wants to get rid of the motorcycle brand again. The news agency Reuters reports that the group has already commissioned an investment bank to find a buyer for the company, which built more than 55,000 motorcycles last year and thus generated sales of 593 million euros and 51 million euros. Rumors about a sale have been around for quite some time, but the company has always denied it. On Wednesday afternoon, the only thing was: no comment. What then means as: yes, true. Audi threatens a disaster in China For a long time, the autocroup ran into the Asian country. But suddenly, Audi comes between political fronts. Since then, sales have been breaking. By Christoph Giesen and Max Hägler more ... From company trips it is to be heard that everything is still in an early stage, nor is there neither a buyer nor a time. But as it is so in this business: Where investment bankers are tense, a business is soon to take place. Otherwise one saves one such thing. A sale would be a departure from the previous course - the Piëch course. VW Group CEO Matthias Müller also always stated that he would definitely keep the twelve brands together. Now it is different, and the timing of the decision is remarkable: it coincides with the departure of Piëchs at Volkswagen. At the beginning of the month, the company sold the majority of its shares in Porsche SE (PSE), which holds a majority interest in the VW Group. He had already withdrawn from the Group's Supervisory Board top in the spring of 2015 after a violent internal power struggle. Piëch and VW, which were separated worlds after decades. And now, where the motorcycle freak is outside, it starts. The 12-brand empire, which was so dear to Piëch, which he built up and expanded, reveals first resolutions - and not by chance at times when the scandal of manipulated exhaust gas emissions of diesel cars leads to billions of dollars. So VW will again be a pure four-wheel operation. The question now is: Would it remain with Ducati? Or will other subsidiaries be placed on the sales list? The super sports car brand Lamborghini about, or the Prestigerschmieden Bentley and Bugatti? Beautiful small brands, which play for the sales but hardly any role.

Volkswagen prüft Verkauf von Ducati - manager magazin

google tanslate:

The works council of the car maker Volkswagen has warned in the context of a possible sale of the motorcycle manufacturer Ducati "an irresponsible uncertainty of workforce". A spokesman for the works council said manager-magazin.de, the sale was by no means decided. "A sales decision for any company of the Group would have to pass the Supervisory Board." This has not happened so far.

The harsh response of the VW works council is a reaction to sales plans for the Ducati car manufacturer in Wolfsburg and at least one other subsidiary reported by manager magazin in its latest issue (April 28). The sale of Ducatis is currently being prepared, at the latest in June, the documents should be ready for potential buyers, report stakeholders. The Volkswagen subsidiary Audi had bought Ducati 2012 for around 750 million euro.

According to information from Group companies, Volkswagen has already arranged initial inquiries for its motorcycle subsidiary Ducati. A far eastern prospective buyer, for example, offered a good one billion euros for the Italian cult brand, it says. The bidders, however, have not yet had an insight into the Ducati books. Last year, the Italian motorcycle brand moved 731 million euros.

The spokesman of the works council said manager-magazin.de, the colleagues at Ducati would not have to worry. In the event of a planned sale, he expects an exciting discussion on the Supervisory Board. As this is not the case, it is really pure speculation. " And this led to an irresponsible uncertainty among the employees.

If the Supervisory Board ever touches on such issues, the works council will always inform the affected brands on its own initiative. Volkswagen stock market chart and the Ducati mother Audi stock market chart had not commented the reports of manager magazin and even the news agency Reuters.

The purchase of Ducatis was once caused by VW's former board of directors and major shareholder Ferdinand Piëch. Piëch has almost completely withdrawn from the company.

A sale of Ducati could follow the separation of other parts of the company, it says in the group. Volkswagen's financial director, Frank Witter, is talking about a "portfolio consolidation". According to manager magazines, the sales list also includes Renk, a subsidiary of the truck manufacturer MAN, which specializes in drive technology.

It the sell will change for better Ducati's approach to their customer they definitely have my vote.

I will talk to my investment manager to see if I can free some money to buy it. I will hire you all to work in Ducati. lol

A few months ago, we reported that Volkswagen was considering putting motorcycle builder Ducati up for sale. VW Group purchased Ducati via Audi back in 2012 when the automaker was riding high, but the ever-escalating costs of its diesel-emissions cheating scandal are forcing the German group to cut back on expenses. Now, Reuters reports that Harley-Davidson is working on a bid to buy the legendary Italian company.

Anonymous sources told Reuters that Ducati could be worth up to €1.5 billion ($1.67 billion USD) and that Harley-Davidson has hired Goldman Sachs for help with the deal. Harley's not the only company interested in Ducati: Indian motorcycle company Bajaj Auto is also reportedly eyeing a bid, as is Investindustrial, the investment group that originally sold Ducati to Audi.

Harley-Davidson and others are expected to place first bids for Ducati next month, but Reuters reports that VW might hold onto the brand until after this year's EICMA Motorcycle Show, set to be held in Milan this November. Reuters also reports that BMW, Suzuki, and Honda won't place bids for Ducati.

VW and Audi have yet to confirm publicly that Ducati is on the market, but all signs point to its sale. The German automaker has said repeatedly that it would cut "non-essential" elements of its business in the wake of the diesel cheating scandal, and Ferdinand Piech, the former VW Group chairman who championed the Ducati purchase, has left the company.

Reuters notes that Harley-Davidson has a huge market share in the US, but faces sinking demand for its products due to an aging customer base and competitive products from Honda and Indian.

Which reminds me. I need to drop in on Arun's bar this weekend. If it's half as fun as the dealership, should be a good time.

KKR, Bain Capital and Permira, are working on this deal too , deal is valued at 1,65 billions...

Bajaj Auto is the big Indian company interested. For those who are panicking, they also own 48 percent of KTM. Their off-road line has soared in the 10 years since they bought in. And they even got back into Moto GP, along with their Moto 3 racers.

Bajaj would be better than Hero. We saw how they did EBR.

Yeah, Hero would be as bad as Harley IMHO. But then again, I'm saying that from a selfish perspective. Baja seems to get it when it comes to boutique brands, and has the resources to push the brand even further. Much like how Tata saved Range Rover. Again, IMHO though.
