I’m not really one of those people who are obsessed with the weight of the bike but due to some recent work on the bike it got me thinking about it a bit, not from the perspective of how light can I make it but more of the what’s the best bang for the buck.

Obviously there are the relatively free mods: remove exhaust servo motor, remove evaporative canister and of course diet and exercise. What else am I missing?

Then there are the best bang for the buck mods: lithium ion battery. Tires

Finally there are the ones you can spend silly money on to shave grams.

So what are your best bang for buck weight reduction mods?

That’s a big drop, but also a big price tag $100/lb roughly. I suppose that price comes down a bit if you sell off stock parts to recoup cost.

Subframe
Titanium exhaust
Rear drive assembly (mag hub, aluminum sprocket, Titanium axle)
Composite brake rotors front and rear
Titanium front axle, swingarm pivots, chassis and engine bolts
Titanium connecting rods, RS crank, TSS flywheel
CF wheels

Not a waste of money at all. They are called consumer goods and they probably wouldn’t produce such wasteful things if people didn’t consume them additionally, the subject matter was “weight reduction” not the opinion on justifying parts to do so. I surmise by this logic that because all phones have a time piece that owning a Rolex is just foolish.

If I was going on a diet, Id replace the battery, the stock cans (check the specs as some are a lot better than others) maybe a 520 setup but as for the plastics nah! I bet if you put weighed every bit of plastic on the bike and compared it with all the carbon replacements, given the emphasis on bling by the manufacturers Ill bet the difference isnt more than a kg or two max. But those grams are ridiculously expensive!

Sure go on a diet and lose some blubber if you're a bit of a lardass ha ha!!! the GP paddock must all be under 75kg, try weighing your riding gear and here's a free one- gas is about 750gms per litre so when you track it work out your consumption. For me I use roughly 3 litres in 15 minutes, so you could save 8 plus kg right there for free, and like you say weigh your tires, sorry I mean Pirelli's because some are heavier than others.

We should probably close all the Ferrari, Lamborghini dealerships as well no one here is an F1 driver and probably limit sport bikes to 80hp. Complete waste. National speed limit is 65. You don’t need a 200hp motorcycle

Carbon fuel tank only save 2 lbs.
I do have both tank and subframe from Fullsix on my trackbike, but it’s because I love their carbon:))

Yeah, the emphasis was on the most cost effective ways to loose weight. Comparatively the subframe is a better value than the exhaust but I wonder how they weighed the setup ( full stock tail with all street provisions vs monocoque tail without any street provisions), just removing tail lights, license plate mount, passenger pegs etc sheds a decent amount of weight.

Ideally you' would make a one piece carbon tail/seat/frame. I might make it a project but..... cant see a reason for it just and dont think I could improve on Ducati's aesthetics

I've gone to pretty great lengths to drop a little over 60lbs. The first 20-30lbs are easy. Battery, wheels, exhaust, subframe, etc. It starts getting expensive to drop those last 10-15. The kickstand is another $100 per pound upgrade when swapping it out for CF.

You will save 4lbs on a Shorai battery or the Antigravity battery. But you would also need to buy their chargers. If you use a trickle charger it will ruin these batteries. Whats cool about the Antigravity battery is if the battery is too low to start the bike. You dont have to use a jump pack. The battery has a button on top. Even though it wont start it stores enough juice that when you press the button on top of the battery that will jump start the bike. The draw back to this is where our batteries are located. You need to remove the fairing to press that button. The Antigravity battery is less expensive.

Doing a 520 conversion will save you between 3.5 to 4.5lbs depending on which brand you use and whether its steel or billet. I have the 520 CNC Racing 41T rear sprocket, CNC Racing sprocket holder, EK 3D black/gold chain, Driven front sprocket, CNC Racing flange (OEM flange wont fit with the CNC Racing parts) CNC Racing flange and sprocket bolts. If I had to do it over I would go for the AEM set up. I like the look of the AEM hub flange better than the CNC Racing. And if you get the AEM flange in one color and the AEM sprocket holder in another color you will be able to the color of the AEM sprocket holder a lot more than the CNC racing. Here is the AEM hub flange SPROCKET CARRIER FLANGE 'D-SEI' - AEM Factory and here is the CNC Racing hub flange in a single color REAR SPROCKET FLANGE DUCATI and in bicolor REAR SPROCKET FLANGE DUCATI BICOLOR

You will also save up 70% of weight on a front fender and rear hugger. At least thats what Ilmberger writes. Probably the same with Full Six. I wish I knew the stock weight of OEM front fender and rear hugger compared to my front and rear carbon fiber ones

I keep a bathroom scale and a little food scale to weigh the steel bolts after swapping with Titanium

The antigravity was almost 4.5 lbs lighter than stock. Sadly the one I got was defective and would intermittently go open circuit. Waiting on the shorai to arrive. I have a lithium charger so that’s no worrry. The shorai has a BMS the antigravity does not.
If my bike was track only I’d consider the full six monocoque tail. But it’s a bit speedy for me.

make sure it’s specific to your battery with balancing capability. I have a “lithium charger” but it’s not a real one. AntiGravity has a special charger. Shorai prolly does too
