Since there are quite a few of you have an interest in weight reduction, I thought i would do a couple of posts on the differences between stock and aftermarket pieces. I will not be posting anything that does not peg triple digits on the scale. I will be posting some frames (carbon, tube chassis, stock) swingarms (carbon, Pierobon, stock) engine parts (RS crank vs SL crank vs stock) rods {Ti vs steel) etc when I get a chance. A lot of common pieces have been posted so I will try and stick to parts that maybe have not. For now here are the weight differences between the stock rear axle vs TI and the stock rear hub vs magnesium.
Overall weight savings is 735g or 1.6 lbs. Throw in an aftermarket flange, sprocket, drive pins, axle nuts, carbon disc, light caliper and a 520 chain and your are probably close to 5lbs of sprung weight. What would all that cost? Around $4500.00 or $900.00 a pound.

The hub for the 2018 1299 final edition is part # 75620131A. The hub for the 2020 V4R is part # 75620131A so yes they are the same part. The bearing spacer, dust cover, o-rings, circlip and bearings are the same as well. The 1299 and the V4 axles carry different part numbers however I believe that the dimensions are the same. I have a V4 rear end (ebay) that i need to pull apart for a project. Ill check it. The brake brackets are different. The flange carries a different part # as well but again, I believe they are the same part. The flange spacer, washer and axle nuts are all the same part #.

Agreed. It’s probably a good idea to look at the riders contribution to the overall goal of weight reduction first. If you could stand to loose a few lbs, it’s far more economical to start there. If you’re putting hardware on a gram scale and your lean mass index looks like Oprah’s (the in between failed diets Oprah) then there’s a whole different issue above the neck that probably needs attention cause that’s some interesting rationalization right there.
