So I got caught in a bad storm, pulled over in the crossover and put the bike in wet mode on the way home, about 25 miles. Wet mode is terrible as the throttle mapping for it is bad and does not respond to inputs much. It was hard to see for a while with rain and spray off the cars so I had to leave it there until I hit a stoplight in town.

Interesting, I find wet mode to be very useful in the wet and damp conditions. Basically you can pin it most of the time without worrying to much about losing the rear. In fact wet mode until you get smooth on the throttle is probably as quick through the twisties, of course it feels like youve stepped onto a moped but its deceptive as youre "only" working with 150hp.

Did you crash or spin the rear wheel?

No, no crashes but hydroplaned a few times with some bitching slides. The 1299 is pretty good in heavy rain and the Corsa Q3 did pretty good. The Aprilias I’ve had in the past would not run in heavy rain. They would bog down. Best rain bike I had was a 1998 ZX9, it was a tank. Nothing affected that thing.

Hydroplaning is more about the tires. Not sure why you would think the wet mode did not work well for you.
